Dragon and Tiger is a 1500-year old self-healing medical chi gung (qi gong or chi kung) system based on acupuncture. It is sometimes called meridian line chi gung because it helps free you of energetic (chi) blockages by balancing the chi flow that runs through the acupuncture meridians or channels of the body. Invigorating, yet calming, Dragon and Tiger helps you to release stress and mitigate pain and illness.

    Exceptionally renowned for healing

Dragon and tiger simultaneously accomplishes three major changes in the body that are necessary for healing:

    1. Helps rid the body of stagnant chi—the chi that is not moving freely. Stagnant chi is located where there are physical, emotional, mental and psychic blocks
    2. It raises the energy levels of the body so that its natural healing capacities are stimulated and strongly elevated
    3. It helps balance the body's energy flow through the acupuncture meridians and deeper energy channels.

    Weapon against cancer

In China, Dragon and Tiger is sometimes referred to as cancer chi gung/qigong. There, 15 to 20 million people have done Dragon and Tiger to help combat cancer or to mitigate the physical and emotional effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

    Superior, low-impact exercise

Dragon and Tiger has withstood the test of time as a superior low-impact health maintenance exercise that is grounded in spirituality. Of the hundreds of chi gung/qigong systems that I personally studied or researched in China, this is the easiest complete system to learn and gain great benefit from. Even when done imperfectly and by people who have limited energy or range of motion, or who are sick or wheelchair bound, this exercise is immensely beneficial. Its movements are gentle and can be done sitting down.

    Seven gentle movements

Dragon and Tiger is composed of seven simple movements that should be repeated twenty times each. To complete a set requires only fifteen minutes a day of practice. Its movements are soft, circular and fluid, enhancing your overall ability to move gracefully. The practice enables you to feel all the parts of your body and wake up and exercise your nervous system. The movements relax and soften all the body's muscles and improve blood circulation.

    Good for the joints

Dragon and Tiger's gentle movements are especially beneficial for the joints and increase their range of movement, especially in the upper body. The movements improve physical balance, coordination and flexibility and stretch the legs, waist and upper body.

Dragon and Tiger is Based on Acupuncture

This 1500-year-old form of medical chi gung/qigong affects the human body in a manner similar to, and according to the same principles as, acupuncture. Because its exercises are designed to affect the chi that runs through the acupuncture meridians or channels of the body, it is sometimes called a meridian line chi gung/qigong method.

How I learned Dragon and Tiger

I learned this system while training in China from Zhang Jia Hua, a doctor of Chinese medicine. She was extremely proficient in the use of chi gung/qigong for medical purposes and was at one time vice president of the All China Chi Gung Association. Zhang was so taken with Dragon and Tiger that in fifteen years of active teaching, during the 60s and 70s, she taught and qualified more than 20,000 instructors in China who spread Dragon and Tiger to twenty million Chinese people. It was her hope that I would teach and train teachers in this wonderful healing art when I returned to the West.

    What’s in a name

One meaning of Dragon and Tiger is that you develop the agility and flexibility of a flying dragon and the relaxed power of a walking tiger. Chinese medicine gives it more specific meanings: the tiger’s immense strength and responsiveness are traits that derive from the liver—hence the tiger is a metaphor for a healthy and strong liver. The dragon’s ability to fly is a trait that resides in the lungs—hence the dragon is a metaphor for healthy and strong lungs.

Longevity Breathing (Taoist breathing) is the foundation for all Taoist chi development and longevity practices, including chi gung/qigong, tai chi and TAO meditation. Learning to breathe properly is one of the most important portals to healing, relaxation, rejuvenating sleep, graceful aging and spirituality.

Marriage of Heaven and Earth chi gung (qi gong) helps heal back and spine problems and is especially effective for mitigating repetitive stress injury and carpal tunnel. Pulsing joints (openings and closings) without muscular tension and more complex longevity breathing techniques—nei gung (neijiaquan) techniques—are taught.
This advanced program focuses on strengthening and regenerating the spine and incorporates nei gung components for controlling the energies of the spine.
This advanced nei gung practice teaches you to dramatically raise your energy level and master how chi energy moves in circles and spirals throughout your body. It helps you increase the speed with which chi is circulating in your body; it is necessary for psychic practices; it can be used to channel an overactive mind into stable pathways.
This advanced program incorporates some of the oldest and most powerful Taoist rejuvenation techniques. This program amplifies all the physical, breathing and energetic components learned in earlier chi gung programs and completes the process of integrating all the components of nei gung.
