Is chi gung safe?

The vast majority of the thousands of chi gung techniques, including those in energy arts programs, are health-supporting and safe. However, like any powerful tool, if used incorrectly, chi gung can cause damage as well as benefit. There are literally hundreds of chi gung practices that can cause significant problems. Bruce Frantzis avoids teaching any techniques that involve unnatural movement or forcing the breath, chi or body. Be wary of forceful practices that promise fast results. If your body, mind, emotions, or psychic perceptions are getting weird or painful simply stop practicing until you find out clearly what is going on. Whatever your strength or capacity, your chi gung practices must be internally comfortable. For more information on the importance of correct chi gung practice, please refer to Appendix C of Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body.
