Hi everyone. I just had a question. I see some fighters staying
rooted and only moving to counter the opponent. I see other fighters (tae
kwon do) moving constantly and using evasion as a defense. They seem to play
hit and run. they get in, get a few hits and get back out. Is there an
    advantage either way?

Just to respond as clarification, you write “rooted” as there are different ways terms are used… perhaps it seems you write that implying they are not-moving in space (as a tactic), but that would only be as approp per moments… while Rooted isn’t a position, its a stable of connection (image a car- the engine “in gear” and only ‘idlling’ so just creeeping-fwd so slowly, but stand in front of it, and push, or stand next to the side-door and try and stick your hand to the door-quarter-panel and friction it to stop its motion.. .it is moving, but the car “is moving” .. when you trying to hinder or change its motion it is rooted (the weight/mass connection through its connection)..

the same way an electro magnet, upon an iron-floor isn’t “heavy” (relatively- the iElectro-magnet may be a chunk of iron, so still 20lbs.. or more.. but when the Elec power is flowing it is stuck to ground- not by bracing the legs “at an angle”.. and not just the mass falling-down (which re-dirs any force upon it) but by the connection to the ground.. cease the elec-power is a big amt of that down-connection drops-off = move the magnet?

metaphor a chunk of clay “thrown” on a potter’s wheel (how you have to drop it such that it thwacks the wheel, the clay sort of mold-adheres-spreads a bit.. then if you push-pull any of the 360-degrees the clay- chunk is steady.. if you are “bracing” (ie any push-pull reqs an adjustment by the receiver, even a slight-shift… alter where how the structure is down through the spine-legs.. that is Engineering-architecture ~ext’l… of course it is all “doorways of access ot Int’l power as the issue- how contact “root”

once have than can move or stay still as long as doing -either- doesn’t break that int’l flow-dynamic.. (either is dynamic once they become alive-poss…
even an int’l martial artist that seems “Relatively” still in posture is likely adjusting a few inches (moving the legs such that pelvis and spine above it, realigns position of the cyliinder a few inches (with some slight rotation of that cylinder) and likely at least adjusting the contact in both feet-soles a bit, whether either of the feet “step” or not..
but I’d think that’s a few moments as even what “looks” like not moving position, is going to take a step at some point, even if only a couple of step-shifts vs as you say the bouncing-bopping style of movement.. (up-down being much harder to have an int’l contact-dyn likely but they aren’t looking for that, more the shifting of Range.. such that trying to bounce in when other is not reacting..

so the “bouncey-one” is in range to reach quickly and they move (before other’s Reaction)… that is ext’l usually we walk around Gap-sense-Gap (like seeing in snapshot-pictures..)

part of Int’l martialarts is to see with more freq pictures (say twice as often, or three-times.. so you can react in-between other’s noticing… not by chance but but more -turns-).. … a continual awareness (no longer “snapshots” but continuous-constant unbroken awareness-flow of what is occuring (around you outside, and inside you … then you see those two-become one seamless).. [my 2cents] -cheers-luck
