I received an email stating the following:

“In the near future we will be transitioning from our current website to a new user experience that will be more intuitive and functional. As part of this process we are moving our entire training forum onto Facebook for the simple reason that is familiar and easy to use for most everybody. “

What will happen to the contents of the forum material that is here? If it is all added to facebook, will it be possible to not have out names associated with our posts here if we do not want our names on facebook?

I do not want to see the material that is here go “poof”, but I also want to protect the privacy of our names. I felt safe here to post, I do not feel safe at all on facebook.

People have had accounts get deleted or were unable to access their accounts for many reasons. One of the reasons is that facebook requires people to use their real names, unless they have special circumstances. (Unless this has changed).

If this forum is entirely on facebook, and one of the members here are denied access to their account, all the material that they had posted will be lost to them. Also, I have seen facebook delete the contents of users posts without their permission.

I agree with all concerns stated above. Facebook has many positive attributes but also as many negative. I personally do not agree with how Facebook data mines.
I am also concerned with my present group courses that I am subscribed to.
That being stated, I believe in the mission of the E.A. Leadership and will support the transition. I hope for more clarification of this move in the future.

Personally I also regret the intended forum move to FB.

The FB group is not divided into categories, cannot be searched without scrolling back in time through all posts…..and so is not a useful resource in the same way as the forum where one can look through current and past questions relevant to the different particular courses/subjects you might be taking or interested in, irrespective of when you start.

Unless you follow the FB group all the time ( which is not what I would like to have to do) you don’t know what questions have been asked & answered, and I personally feel much less comfortable posting on FB, though I recognise that many are comfortable with it, and would naturally drift to FB group which is integrated into general social media, and is more immediate/responsive than the moderated forum…..its a shame they cant be integrated in some way (beyond my tech knowledge)

It seems to me that the dedicated forum is a far more appropriate context for questions that arise from students paying fees for courses, and In the long term is a much more useful and interesting archive of Q&A for EA and all those learning. Hope EA is not throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

We appreciate your feedback and participation in our forums.

We are in the process of upgrading our website as many of you may have already noticed.  We realize the shift of the forum to Facebook is not ideal for all users however, the site currently hosting our materials doesn’t have an adequate forum for us to use now…

We wanted to use a platform that the majority of our community is already using so Facebook was the obvious stop-gap measure at this point in our website upgrade.

It’s true that this moves our forum from a research and catalog reference to a more real-time interaction between members, but we don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing.  The community forum is a place for people to get feedback, connect and share and the Facebook forum meets those objectives.

We appreciate your interest in the Taoist Arts and hope you will continue to share and participate in our forums.

    Warm Regards,

    Energy Arts Team

How will we be able to find any information if we cannot search for a specific topic? There is no way to find a specific topic in facebook without scrolling through the entire way. That will take so much time as to be practically useless. The same questions may be repeatedly asked because there will be no practical way to see what has been asked/posted before. This will also limit what other members will see because I am pretty sure most of us will not be scrolling all the way through. In my opinion it would be far better to keep the forum as research and catalog based than move to real time based.

If the current forum is no longer feasible, then at the very least, I suggest looking for a new forum solution that provides the minimum functionality of the following:
    1) ability to have separate topics so that information is easily accessible
    2) have a search feature
    3) ability to bookmark links to forum posts/threads

This would be of much more valuable use than simple communication of a messenger app.

The forum here is one of the most valuable parts of Energy Arts.Iin my opinion it is the second most important, the content itself being the first.

If this forum is going to disappear into “digital oblivion” could the users here get digital copies of all of the forums before it does disappear?

This could be done by making each forum and forum thread it’s own PDF that can then be made available to the users here.

At least with this solution the information wouldn’t disappear. It would also may be possible to strip out the poster’s names, which would protect the poster’s privacy.

Or could the forum section be “frozen” allowing no new posts but port all of the current ones onto the new site?

I’m trying to think of ways where this information could still be available to the users here that have posted it. It will be such a shame to lose this in my opinion one of the most valuable parts of ea products: its forems.

I wanted to post a thx to Earts, and all the contributors that have participated in/on this fourm in the past- and though it isn’t clear how it will change in the upcoming, having an archive available is a great step

(I have myself posted a comment a number of times in the past recommending those reading take advantage of the forum-postings as info.. as well as info that is on the website, the tabs across the top, or even the YouTube videos..
-I wonder if any have done so, and benefited from… hopefully it wasn’t taken as just badgering on my part… )
but much info avail, which often similar questions were/are asked… which I’d guess the FB tendency will have it become much more tendency to have this loss of depth, and lack of community of info (even if there is a community-of-current-participation).

Anyway- I hope this post might be seen, but either way- thx for the past, and for what is about to be developed.
