Can anyone describe how they generate fa jin? I don't want to know what it is. Bruce has plenty of detail in his book, The Power of the Internal Arts and Chi, describing what it is. I want to hear how you generate the internal power?

Bend and Stretch is a good

Bend and Stretch is a good way to get some fa jin into your push.

Open and Close is a good way to get some fa jin into your punch.

Yeah Cameron, you can layer

Yeah Cameron, you can layer on as many Nei Gung elements as possible. So add Twisting to it, add spiral energy to it, add breathing to it, add proper alignment to it, add spine bowing to it, even add the power of the 3 tan tians!

Issac recently put up a really good answer to your question, it's on his blog, at watertradition.net.

but it's much better if you FEEL it done to you., the words simply do not do it justice.

bruce went into a lot of exercises on this topic in the push hands seminar, and that should come out as a part of the tai chi mastery program. when that comes out, that could be a great resource.

ive had some small success with fa, but im still learning. to me it feels like a release of a spring, with you in a rooted/balanced posture, and the other person's alignment is compromised, physically, mentally, or even energetically. you need a fair bit more spring than they can absorb, then it seems that their absorbing simply helps them "fly away" better.

great comment jess! simple, direct, and something you can go and practice right away.
in fact,...im gonna go practice now...:-)

I work on the bend and stretching in various postures. and since getting back from the bend the bow figuring out how to guide the pressure flow into various parts. also in push hands Ive been trying to relax and just return what ever is sent my way with nothing added from me. just holding structure and absorbing and giving it right back.
