I don’t know if everyone is aware that each palm change ends in a way that is unique to each palm change. Even though the movement may look identical, the energy mechanics are distinct.

I’ll have to go back the the BMP videos to see if this is captured for the earlier palm changes. I know it is mentioned in some detail in the Lake Palm but not taught because of time and the experience level of the students that were present. This is typical. We are usually running out of time toward the end and these details are often rushed or not gotten to.

It would be nice to hear from the students that learned the palm changes in weekly classes. They should have the detail.

I’m also interested if Bruce ever mentioned bringing each into the core. I’m finding that even though I separate the layer of tissue I’m working with and the energy mechanics of each palm change, I still find that the last movement wants to connect to the core channel. It is as though the first part of the form is separating and the last movement combines in the core.

This may not be true but it is spontaneously arising in my practice.

So, I’ve been playing with this and find that it works well.

Take the Single Palm Change, I think the palm change is complete after the toe out. We’ve toed in then toed out. That’s the palm change. I’ve separated out the layer of yin/yang lengthening and used it to create these two movements. Note yin/yang lengthening isn’t just a linear motion along the length of the arms legs and torso.

Once the palm change is complete, I want to finish the palm by combining it with the core channel. The closing movement does just that. The yin/yang lengthening layer is used at the same time a I access the core channel. I close the energy of that layer into the central channel and then come back out of it in the rise, overturn, fall motion.

I’m just proposing that even the Single Palm Change as taught can be broken down into the pattern of separate and combine. So far, each palm change does it and the end result seems to be the ability to choose to either work with the specific layer or all of them at once from the core. The combining movement mixes them all into the core channel. There’s no longer a need for duality- they are one.

    Who knows?
