Fall Workshop: Investigating the Swings of Energy Gates Qigong

November 11 - November 12

Building Power, Increasing Circulation, and Strengthening the Nervous System

Online and/or In-Person Options Available

New Students Welcome!

The Three Swings of Energy Gates Qigong is a simplified form of the original Qigong process. The complete process includes about twenty types of swings that Daoist Qigong practitioners have used for millennia. Over time it was distilled into just three swings to create the optimal exercise for a short set.

The fundamental purpose of these exercises besides making the body looser is to maximize your qi and blood flow, increasing the internal capacities and refining the qualities of your nervous system. Many Martial Artists and advanced Neigong and Qigong practitioners would learn the swings first to build the power, smoothness and qi flow needed to complete their tasks.

Releasing Stagnant Qi and Improving Circulation

A major physical problem of the body is the accumulation of stagnant chi where chi pools in the body. Your mobility and longevity can be traced back to this. Each swing of Energy Gates can be broken down into a closing and opening section. The closing action of each of the swings is used to condense and make the stagnant chi immobile: to compress it to its most condensed form.

The opening action in the second part of each swing then breaks up the stagnant chi so that the chi of the body will naturally circulate instead of being compromised. Working in tandem with each other, the closing action condenses and stores all of your stagnant qi deep in your body so that the opening action can release and disperse the stagnant qi through your body. Doing this also improves your blood circulation which in turn increases your qi flow even more.

What You Will Learn

In this seminar, Master Bruce Frantzis will explain more advanced ways of doing the three swings and how to upgrade the swings of Opening the Energy Gates of the Body. Bruce will be doing a deep dive into this short but complex set of exercises focusing on:

  • Feeling more comfortable inside of your body
  • Learning to compress and store your stagnant qi and then suddenly release and circulate it throughout your entire body
  • Releasing and stretching the body’s fascia
  • Increasing the smoothness and power of the electrical energy of the nerves so that chi reaches every part of the body
  • Strengthen all the parts of the body that store chi and then release it for better blood circulation, enhancing every major way that blood moves throughout the body

If time allows Bruce will also delve into:

  • Enabling all the body’s joints to move freely and without restrictions, a prerequisite for effective martial arts and Tai Chi Push Hands
  • Applications of the swings in martial arts
  • Increasing the power and smoothness of all horizontal and downward strikes and throws
  • Getting the energy inside the body to manifest-release and absorb in the hands
  • Releasing and healing specific bodily areas – including those that are injured

Master Bruce Frantzis

Bruce Frantzis is a recognized Daoist Lineage Master and the Founder of Energy Arts. He trained for over a decade and a half in China, India, and Japan and worked extensively as a qigong tuina doctor. For more than 50 years he has studied and taught the martial, healing, and spiritual practices of ancient China. He teaches qigong, meditation, and tai chi (and the related arts of baguazhang and xingyi) and has authored more than a dozen books on these subjects. The heart of his tradition is the cultivation of Qi (chi), the internal energy that connects the mind, body, and spirit to the underlying consciousness of the universe (Dao).
