I’m trying to wrap my head around this one, any help would be appreciated.

In acupuncture theory, the Yin meridians have an upward flow and the Yang meridians have a downward flow.

For instance, the Kidney meridian begins at the ‘Bubbling Springs’ point K1 on the sole of the foot. This is supposed to be the body’s major source of Yin Qi from the earth. It flows up the legs and wraps around the kidneys internally and then goes up the chest and the direction of the flow is upwards.

And yet, dissolving qi downwards makes our bodies more Yin but I don’t quite understand how that relates to the flow of the 12 meridians.

    Hi David,

qi flows in both directions in meridians. Acupuncture has settled on a particular world view that is internally consistent and works. Qigong/neigong views things differently, is internally consistent and also works. Bruce often talks about up/down and center to periphery flows and we practice those in the neigong sets. Bruce also focuses on the central and side channels rather than the meridians (apart from D&T) and says that these channels power the meridians. The Spiraling Energy Body set is where you learn to open up the flow of energy upwards from the Earth and when he taught that a few years back we used the central and side channels as the main pathways for the upward flow.

I’m not sure it’s possible or worthwhile to try and reconcile these different models. Probably better to switch model when appropriate as both are effective.

That makes sense, thanks for your response.

I was thinking that perhaps Yang Qi becomes more Yin as it descends down the body, like with the dissolving method. And perhaps Yin Qi becomes more Yang as it ascends, like with Kundalini etc.
