“Just relax.” It’s one of the most common forms of advice out there. But the simple act of relaxing can be incredibly elusive. The good news is that relaxation is a skill that can be developed and practiced.

Gaining the ability to truly relax your body, mind, and spirit is one of the greatest gifts that you can give yourself. Generating a baseline of relaxation at all layers of your being will make an enormous difference in how you experience every moment of your life.

When is the last time you had the feeling of being truly relaxed down to your core? The purpose of this virtual workshop is to give you the practical tools and techniques to be able to do just that.

Taoist practices break down into five basic modes: lying down, seated, standing, moving, and interacting. We’ll be looking at how to apply letting go into relaxation in each of these modes. 

We’ll go over techniques for relaxing your nervous system (including how softening your eyes is a gateway to your nerves), relaxing into sleep, staying relaxed socially, as well as how to maintain a baseline of relaxation throughout your day whatever you happen to be doing.

Releasing physical tension (which is a great thing to do), is just the beginning. We’ll also be looking at how to relax your energy, emotions, and thoughts…or the first four layers of the Taoist Eight Energy Bodies.

Recognizing and Releasing Tension
One of the first steps toward being able to relax is being able to recognize the subtle causes of tension in your body and mind. If you can recognize the ways in which you are becoming tense, you’ll be one step closer to releasing that tension before it manifests.
Dynamic Relaxation in Motion
It’s one thing to able to relax when sitting in meditation or when you’re  focused on being still. But what about the other 95% of the time you’re in motion during your daily life? Taoist meditation is known for taking stillness off of the cushion to carry inside of you through the whirlwind of your life.
Relaxing the Eyes and Nervous System
The eyes are a window to your nervous system. Learning to deeply relax your eyes and the way that you’re seeing can have a cascading effect through your nerves. People are logging more screen time than ever before which can cause a lot of eye strain and headaches. These techniques help release some of that strain and teach you to use your eyes more gently.
Relaxing into Sleep
The mental churning of the day can easily follow our heads to the pillow, making restful sleep tough to come by. Master Frantzis will be teaching the basics of sleep posture and techniques to help you let go of inner noise and relax into a restful night’s sleep.

 

Relaxing During Social Interactions
Whether it’s your family, partner, co-workers, or strangers at the grocery store…it’s easy for tension or anxiety to slip into our interactions. Being able to relax with others can help take the tension out of difficult encounters, and add joy to spending quality time with loved ones.
Relaxing the Taoist Eight Energy Bodies
Taoists in the Water Tradition suggest that human beings are composed of eight layers or energy bodies. These layers extend both deep inside the body, as well as in progressively further distances away from the physical body. This workshop will be particularly focused on the interrelationship of relaxing between bodies 1-4…physical, energetic, emotional, and mental.

Bruce Frantzis

Bruce Frantzis is the Founder of Energy Arts and has been called the foremost Western expert in Wu style tai chi and Yang style tai chi, holding direct lineages from China. He teaches six powerful qigong sets, as well as bagua zhang and hsing-i from the martial, health, and meditation perspectives. His passion is teaching the Taoist meditation tradition, a direct path to awakening your highest potential.

Craig Barnes

Craig Barnes is a Senior Instructor in the Energy Arts system and has been practicing and teaching tai chi, qigong, meditation, and the internal arts for over 30 years. He has studied actively with Master Frantzis since 1987 and has taught his own courses all over the world. He is one of only a few instructors who have been authorized by Master Frantzis to certify instructors in his system. Craig is known for his gentle yet thorough approach, and his ability to present complex material in a direct way that makes it come to life and take root.

Guided Practices

During three follow-up guided practice sessions you’ll be able to clear up any lingering questions and solidify what you’ve learned.
