Please let me know if I understood the first month exercise correctly for open and close edition of EATC.

We basically pull our wrist, and knuckles in and out continuously with varying degree of extension in order to sense what its like when the joints are opened and closed? And we know we are doing it right when we start to feel fluids inside the joints as we pull on these joints?

I do not have a partner to do this exercise with, so I am going to do the next best thing and simply pull on my own knuckles. Is that okay?

Please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks

    Hello CTK,

Yes, your understanding of the instruction is correct and it’s possible to do these excercises by yourself as long as you are sure to fix one end.  Self-practice and self-exploration is a great way to learn!  However, the downside is that you can get lost in the flood of information coming from the body, so being able to practice with a partner from time-to-time and get feedback that isn’t your own is also valuable.

    We hope this is helpful.

    Hi Energy Arts Team,

Regarding this month’s exercise, is it normal to experience mild pain in any of the joints of the fingers (in my case index finger when bending)?

Could that be a symptom that the joint has opened and more fluid is passing through or maybe it has been strained?

Also, please let me know if this is the right space to post these questions or if there is a Facebook group for the Circle.

    Thank you,
    Ana-Maria

    Hello Ana-Maria,

The Facebook forum will be open after launch, but this is a great place to post questions and experiences as well.

It is completely normal that if the joints have been closed down that once movement is attempted, some pain/discomfort might be felt as the joint stiffness alleviates.  Always follow the 70% rule and as long as discomfort eases and the area becomes more relaxed, it’s fine.  If pain or discomfort is increasing, you might be straining too much so back off 50% and proceed at rate that you can relax progressively without hurting yourself.

This is just part of learning about your body’s threshold so thanks for the great question and participation!  We hope this is helpful.

    Warm Regards,

    Energy Arts Team

Thank you for the explanation – the discomfort is now gone and the fingers feel more relaxed! :)

I also don’t have a partner to practice with and when I approached my wife with this, she rolled her eyes. The good news is that I can feel the opening and closing with the breath wherever I focus. I do a lot of this circling hands and it seems to be part of the deal. It’s still quite subtle but I expect that with focus it will grow now that I know what I’m looking for.

Hello all, great comments (share-support), I’d agree that it is both a matter of inch-by-inch (daily accustoming your-system to it) and doing-what-you-can where you’re at (once your further, you can do something else.. that old-walk to the horizon, and then once there, can see further- or a “new” Horizon, so to speak).

-Just in case illuminates- a few older comment threads might be of interest?
    http://www.energyarts.com/forum/muscle-tension-when-opening-joints

I think the 3 issues (or as I wrote about them on the forum for: Qigong for Neck, Back and Shoulder Pain Online Program, where I called them ‘the 3 Challenges’), that each reinforce the other, or limit each other, ie sensitivity, movement, and clarity of what you are trying to do (if can’t feel as much, harder to sense if does or doesn’t- especially if not consistent.. and if movement is super-small, ever harder to notice.. if you were really sensitively-aware, and clear what it was one is trying to do, then you could feel even if little movement.. or if you could move-really-big, but were barely sensitive/aware.. and.or big movement, but is that it? no, perhaps this is.. or not..

-so that as you devel each of them more, you then can look and see/do, and by that point you have, small small degree of, skill doing it (at which point- back to the drawing board, you realize, I was thinking it was levering- “Push” “Pulling” the bones.. to indirectly move.. ah, perhaps the jt itself? -which then opens a new perspective.. and then an Egate sense quality, just as move a finger once doesn’t viz or think ” bend this way or that way ” you just think finger move….

Just in case that is useful-helpful

    ………
a post on the Bagua Mastery forum I wrote about feeling quality, which could relate, and thus if do “that” and not else, and see if there are changes.. and thereby come to recognize how much one was/is doing to “make it happen” that was unneeded to Pulse —of course, in the beginning (which means a long time) do what you need to inorderto get something to happen (as Bruce mentioned, if you need light a candle and chant in the beginning- whatever, as at first its like: huh? its a new thing, the only way we can just “try” is if we interpret this “new thing” in terms of what we already know- a variation on what we can do… (to the degree it is something “new”- it will be out of our experience, so how grasp at straws to do? -like feeling in the dark as you walk and try not to walk into something.. any contact?)

    ===========
slightly separate topic, but in case this gives any context (hopefully it doesn’t distract)
