AnonymousGuestI’ve been a bit concerned at not actually being able to feel the areas of my head. And in that I’m just visualizing them. Came across a quote in Master Waysun Liao’s translation of the Tai Chi classics that I think may be applicable:
“Although in the beginning a certain amount of imagination is needed in order to sharpen your awareness of your own internal energy, the feeling of ch’i flow will, with consistent practice, become substantial enough to convince you that the force flowing within you is real, and not just the product of an overactive imagination.”
It gives me a bit of hope and inspiration anyway.

AnonymousGuestDon’t worry, Kevin. Just give it time. I don’t think that I’m the most naturally sensitive person in the world, so progress has been slow for me at times, but persistence and practice always pay off.
Try not to get so caught up in the visualization that once you start getting little sensations, you miss them – but other than that, I’m sure a little is fine if it helps. You could also try the method that Bruce mentioned of moving your jaw a little, or forehead a little, etc to get a bit of sensation going. Someone else mentioned a little light tapping on the area to help before settling in to focus on it. It will improve with practice!

AnonymousGuestHi folks. In our physical body we feel physical sensation though our nerves. Like most bodily bits and processes, the sensitivity of our nerves generally improves with use (not over-use!), e.g., from relative lack of sensation (numbness) over time through to clarity and ‘flavour ‘ of sensation – whilst visualisation can help get some initial focus/intent going – the sooner you feel with the nerves via the nerves connected to the area that you’re being attentive to the better. Catherine’s suggestions all help, as can simply being patient and quietley attentive. Remember, at this stage, Bruce is encouraging us to get out of our heads and into our bodies – visualisation/imagination resides more in our heads.
