    Hi All

I have recently received medical advice (based on MRI scan) that I have a tear in my hip joint.

The tear (in the cartilage like material) can be commonly found in sports like soccer, hockey, gridiron and Australian football codes, Ballet. In essence sports with ballistic or load bearing twisting.

I do not recall feeling a tear pain at the time (but remember feeling groin pain 12 hours after the workout: doing some Bai Bu / Ko Bu footwork for about 5-10 minutes).

Initially I thought it was a bladder or pubic bone injury based on my previous groin (hernia repair).

In essence I would like to know whether anyone has:

    1. Has /had the same injury;
    2. Has had a hip arthroscope to repair the labral damage (as this can not self heal) and recovered to come back to bagua.

I would desperately like to return to training, as after two hernia repairs in 1996, I have not enjoyed any activity other than Bagua (primarily for it’s meditative / walking high!).

If anyone can help or suggest advice, I would sincerely appreciate it.

    Regards

    Hi Chris,
as an osteopath I have seen this in patients. Like any physical tissue injury, the physical damage is not necessarily proportional to the pain and / or disability ie it depends on many other factors including structural alignment, chi flow and whether or not the structural damage is actually responsible for pain / dysfunction.
I have 1 patient who is much better after surgery following years of “managing it” & avoiding much use.
I have a current patient who is improving so much with treatment that surgery is unlikely to be necessary.
hope you’re feeling better by now anyways

    Hi Ben

I really appreciate your comments and feedback.

I have laid off training since posting my comments.

Pain factor in (THE REGION) was 8/ 10 24hrs/7days.

It is now down to 5/10 and no longer constant.

I hope to start training over the next 2 weeks.

I miss the mental buzz (i.e high) you get from circle walking….really relaxing and invigorating at the same time.

The hip surgeon also recommended I avoid surgery…said it should be the last option (when all things fail). I appreciated his honesty, especially as at the time I had half contemplated an operation just to get rid of the pain.

Having that injury really took the air out of my exciting enrolment….finding this course (bagua). Only just getting the scent as the injury so far has prevented growth.

I hope I can resume and flourish in this system.

ps I found heaps of physiotherapy and self stretching (every morning and evening) helped.
