    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the benefits of practicing Cloud Hands are, either from a health, or martial point of view. Also, how long should it be practiced for daily to get these benefits.

I was also wondering if there is any clip on the web of Bruce Frantzis demonstrating this exercise, as I would like to see how he does it. I have looked on Google and YouTube but could not find one.

    Thanks!
    Jim.

    Hey Jim,

Cloud Hands is a great exercise, because it allows you to work on lots of different qigong principles in an integrated way. In other words, whether you want to loosen up the body, smooth out your nervous system, or strengthen your ability to circulate energy, Cloud Hands is a great container.

There should be a clip of some of the senior instructors doing Cloud Hands as part of the Energy Gates set on this site.

Generally, anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes of Cloud Hands can get you into the flow of the movement, but it depends what you’re working on and what you want to do with it.

    Does that make sense?

    Hi Jim,

There is footage of Bruce doing some Energy Gates Chi Gung including Cloud Hands in this video at 3:13.

Thanks for the video clip Kevin. That’s the first time I’ve seen Bruce use Cloud Hands and the first Swing as a combative application. Of course, I was told that ‘Gates’ and also ‘Dragon and Tiger’ have these applications and it’s not too difficult to even imagine them, but it was really cool to actually see them done by Bruce.

    Thanks,

Thanks Kevin, that is a great clip and has helped a lot. I notice Bruce performs Cloud Hands a lot slower than I have been taught.

And thanks also for the advice Dan. 20 minutes is a bit longer than I am able to practice it at the moment, but gives me something to aim toward!

    Thanks,
    Jim.
