    Hi,
Since last Monday I’m in the Bagua Mastery Program. But I’m already stuck at the first exercise.
I don’t really get the Twisting. Even when I twist my forearm with my other hand, I hardly feel the tissues moving.
And from moving it with my intention I can only dream.

    So my questions are:
    1) Since I read in another post that you first should do the twisting until you can move it with your intention, how much time does it usually need to even get the feeling of twisting?

    2) Is there a video for twisting somewhere? Like which shows the actually movement by intention?

    3) Does anyone know an alternative description or an alternative exercise?

I would also like to hear your experiences with the twisting

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Sven,

    Welcome to the program!

We talked a little bit about twisting vs. turning here: http://www.energyarts.com/forum/hands-position-during-standing-dissolving

To quote my fellow instructor Jess O’Brien from another forum post: “I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The leg twisting should be so light
you can barely feel it. Over time it will grow, but if you get obsessed
with it, you might overstrain or get stuck.”

And another excellent piece of advice for starting this program and learning all the new skills involved comes from one of our senior practitioners, James LaPlante in this thread: http://www.energyarts.com/forum/why-so-hard-learn

Let us know how it goes!

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    thanks for the answer.

So in the end turning is moving the tissues by the bone and twisting is moving the bones by the tissues?

So the ultimate goal would be to be able to move all bones/ the entire body by intentional moving of the tissues?

How do I know when I can/should go on?
It is always mentioned, that it would be the easiest to recognize the movement in the forearm and thighs.
But even there I don’t feel or see anything.
It was said, that the easiest way to distinguish imagination from the real movement would be to ask someone if he feels anything.
But is it someone who is not in the material possible at all to feel something?
(To bad no instructor is around my place)

Maybe I am too impatient, but it’s hard to not see any progress

    Hi Sven,

I wouldn’t worry about “making the twist happen” right now. It’s important to know that twisting the tissue is the goal, as opposed to other forms of exercise that only look at contracting and releasing muscles.

All the drills, including circle walking, are designed to eventually spiral the tissue.

You can get into some funny territory with the bones and joints if you work too hard and force the twist to happen.

Better, if you have a partner, even if they are not in the program, have them turn the tissue in your forearm for 10 minutes, then practice some of the arm movements and see if you notice a difference. That’s how we do it in classes.

    Best of luck!

    Hi Sven,

Regarding your question above (#2) for a video of the twisting instructions (found on pages 12-17 of MODULE 1 / Bagua Skills: Twisting) , check out Disk 2 of the Video Modules 1-3 set of DVDs. In the menu of this desk, select “Twisting the Legs”.
I believe everything Mr. Frantzis demonstrates on the lower leg is applicable to the arm (calf = forearm, thigh = upper arm). Later in the video, he demonstrates twisting on the upper arm.

    Jeff
