AnonymousGuestI’m a 45 year-old tai chi and qigong practitioner recently diagnosed with a complex radial tear of the medial meniscus of my left knee (tear appears to be radial longitudinal).
While it appears to have happened 2 years ago while studying tai chi in wudang academy (training hard for 6-8 hours/day), it has just recently affected my sitting practice, preventing me from sitting without pain in my left knee.
Two options I’ve been presented with are 1) Menisectomy (removal of torn portion of cartiedege) and suturing (repair) in combination with stem cell therapy.
Anyone have experience with either of these?
Any resources?
Thanks for any help!

AnonymousGuestHello Kert- Just a thought I had- although this might depend upon whether the tear is complete in that structure (above you do say a complex radial tear, and whether the connecting structure, tensegrity-wise, has a linkage in that vector or not)..
I might suggest you have a practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method, and/or a Body Mind Centering practitioner (perhaps a session with either- depending upon if they are nearby your area, and their skill level)
– the idea of “movement” of the joint and all the connective tissue, ideally the TaiChi/NeiGung way of moving so that foot-ankle movement is related to movement all the way up and through the leg and into and through the torso.. a continous connection (vs “weakest link the the chain” that results not only in tears and inflamation.. but if movement- in connection- within the range, that movement itself: stimulates fluid exchange (healthy in, clogged flow out), as well as activates involved nerves (which doesn’t just sense and trigger movement, but such nervestim provides actual bio-electrical stim… nudging back to growth
Note Moshe Feldenkrais actually had knee damage severe enough to require two canes, after years of “football’/soccer… structural surgery was recommended.. and yet per his discoveries (developed into a system) he regained full use, supporting the body’s own healing process.. (although like many “founders” his development seems in some cases to have become overly standardized- and applied by rote in some, but when one has the experience to contact and communicate a new way of moving and integrating to the other…
This can be done by/through Chinese Taoist “water method” _Int’l practice_ but there is a bit of chicken&egg, as to create healing affect one needs to move in that integrated “Dragon-Body manner” and yet to develop that- one needs to get a feel for it.. and so on..
so indirectly- rather than directly addressing either of the two options you mention-I dont know what your thoughts about trying those methods- assuming you find a practitioner that is can communicate-contact via a light-touch and yet still a strong shift can be noticed in a single session.another suggestion- related to the above, I don’t know how close you might be to Cary, NC… and.or he might have other suggestions as well- there is an instructor Jason Quin, listed in Cert-instructs on this site: not only in state you list above, but I know in the past he worked with such ChiGungTuiNa type interaction, as well as injury issues.. a thought
best of luck to you
