Should one still practice Tai Chi or standing meditation if you are starting to feel ill? What is the reasoning for not in energetic terms?

    Thanks

Depends on what it is I guess. It’s certainly always better to ground sick energy so in that regard tai chi would be good in some cases. You have to be careful not to accidentally raise it like I did last week. Pretty much straight away I felt dizzy and like I was going to throw up.

taiji is excellent for getting the lymph flow going, which is an important element in your immune system. it’s also getting your blood moving, but without the stress hormones you see from more intense exercise, so that’s another good thing.

personally, when im sick I will practice periodically throughout the day, but very gently. I find that it helps me be more comfortable and I have a sense I get well quicker, though it’s hard to be sure. particularly after you have been sick a while and are just better enough to be bored out of your mind, it ‘s great to have something that’s not TV to do beside notice how sick you are…

so its been my experience that taiji is very useful when I have been sick.

however, if I had to make a choice between mega C supplementation vs taiji, id go with the C. fortunately, I can have both.

I’d agree with Richard on this. I was off work last week with a combination of Malaria and Typhoid – a wonderfully debilitating cocktail. After the first couple of days I found myself climbing the walls with boredom in my unit, so I started some light Taiji. I found it helped a lot although I was initially a little dizzy. Where the true value has come in has been in the last two or three days, as I’m recovering strength quickly. I think the key is not to overdo – push gently.

The reasoning I guess would be that if you’re sick you have stagnant Qi somewhere. Taiji gets that Qi moving.
