AnonymousGuestI am very interested in seeing a few Tai Chi applications against somebody who retracts his attacking limb with speed. I guess here the sticking to the opponents limbs gets very important. But how does one get the first contact with the attacking limb without getting hit? In some Wing Chun styles people place their hands and arms on the centerline and form a protecting wedge with the intent of forcing the opponent to get into contact with the hands or arms because the opponent cannot hit the body or head without contacting the wedge. What is the approach of Tai Chi here?

AnonymousGuestThe wedge idea is a beginners thing in wing chun, then it becomes a sphere. Chi Sau trains how to use the sphere and put it on an opponent. You can also put the sphere on your opponent before actually making contact using your intent. I think this allows you to stick without physically sticking such that you’re connected to the jab and can react accordingly at any time. I believe there must be a similar concept in most internal arts.
