AnonymousGuestHi, Bruce, your video lessons are well presented with clarity and lots of valuable details. Thank you very much. I have some questions and hope to gain more understanding from you.
1. Lesson 13, Turning the Hands Inward and Outwards
i. If the hand starting position is vertical with the palm facing inside of your body, then there are two ways to turn inward and two ways to turn outward, right? How about if the palm is facing upward or downward? Is there only one way to turn inward and one way to turn outward in that case?
ii. Can you demonstrate the turning hands inward and outward in commencement again and use the thumb or pinkie to indicate the turning direction in a very visible way? Really need help to understand “turning inward and turning inward more” in Lv and An. Also need help to understand the “turning outward more” in Ji.2. Lesson 43, Left Single Shoulder Stroke
i. Which direction is the wall moving? When done with body turned 45 degree, is it in the same direction of the front foot? Or is it in the plane of the upper body (in which case the body moves side way)? It looks like the central channel is tilted during the bending phase of move, is the kwa titled? Is the central channel vertical after the stretching ends?February 19, 2013 at 6:06 am #133173
AnonymousGuestIn regards to 1 I believe you are correct. It depends if the turn/twist/spiral starts from your thumb or pinky. Once you start to feel the chi connections it will make more sense. I think for now just be assured that turning out will always send energy away and turning in will always bring energy back. Then while you’re practicing try and get a sense of energy spiraling back from your hands and also forward to your hands.
It seems like Wu style commencement is designed in such a way that the opening/closing of the kua starts pumping the side channels and when combined with the wrapping of the back and the spiraling of the arms aims to fully connect the arms to the body without you even realising it.
