How should I approach the principals I have learned in the DVD series to my the Tai Chi forms I have practiced for a long time. An Example in my Simplified 24 while doing the “part the wild horses mane” I find that I am reflexively doing the Wu style stepping with great results (Especially when sparing and push hands). I see a mine field of everything getting mixed up and resembling something different.

I don’t want to “Throw the baby out with the bath water” but I would like some guidance on how to keep things separate or if I should even try and keep them separate.

Great question Morgan, I have been wondering the same thing. I only have Yang Style Tai Chi Instructors where I live so that is what I practice. But I was also wondering how or if I should combine the lessons into the Yang form.

I have come to a conclusion that most of the questions I could ask are basically answered in some form or another as I get deeper into the DVDs and books (and practice). Maybe after a year or two I could see asking some real questions about connections I do not understand.

What I learned before was missing a lot (understatement) and what I am now learning is making me successful compared to any instruction I have had before. (Yes a live teacher is better) That said I am happy to let it blend into what I used to do and really get some use from what I spent years practicing. I guess the question was coming from my own wish to be better than others or that my experience was more valuable or special.
