I wanted to drop a quick note and see if I am grasping the material correctly.
The first school of Tai Chi I learned in was taught in mainly English because my teacher (American) was taught in English by his teacher (Chinese) which he was fluent in.
Peng- Ward Off expansion energy since this is very basic I think I am grasping this concept correctly.
Lu- Which is usually translated rollback is a yielding or absorbing Again the basic concept I believe I understand. I use the translation sinking or sink back for this movement which can be confusing with the common posture names but seems to be in line with the explanation in the video.
Ji- two lines of energy moving in the same direction that at some point come into focus (I was taught this as “Squeeze” rather than “Press” again an issue that I am aware of in the common posture names).
Here I am hoping for a little clarification, the way I was originally taught this concept was that the energy was driven into a focal point like light traveling through a magnifying glass, which if you would place a card at the point of focus it would burn through but before or after that point the intensity would dissipate. Is this the correct way of viewing this or am I off my mark on this one?
An- Another nomenclature issue from the common translation I was taught this as a compressive energy (or pressing) the water concept that mentioned in the video was very close to what I was given, so I believe I have feeling for this energy too.
My biggest concern is that my thoughts on Ji are correct. I want to keep my preconceptions from interfering with grasping the material.
