    Hi,

instructions in taichi_10 are confusing: how many repetions of repulse monkey are in the form or which leg is in front in slanted flying?

I was going to ask exactly the same question. Bruce’s demonstrations differ from the beginner and intermediate practice clips with Craig. Interesting to experiment with both side as well as Bruce’s varying weight shift options, but which is preferred for the Old yang Short Form? In ‘step back repulse monkey’ we were told three repetitions which leaves the right foot forwards requiring slanting flight to be initiated by turning towards the left as in the practice clips with Craig, however, Bruce repeatedly demonstrates initiating slanting flight from a left foot forward position.

    Hi All,

In EATC Yang Style Month 10, Session 18 Bruce demonstrates a variation on the Slanted Flying movement that would occur when doing an even number of repetitions (2,4,6, etc…) of the preceding movement Repulse Monkey. The core Old Yang Style form is done using 3 repetitions of Repulse Monkey resulting in the Slanted Flying movement as shown in the next video lesson (Session 18b), the beginner practice (Session 30) and intermediate practice (Session 31) videos. The variation shown in this clip is used for training purposes and in some longer Old Yang Style tai chi forms.

    See the standard lesson here:

    Kind regards,

Just to be clear, does this mean everything after repulse monkey is backwards? I.e. the beak hand in single whip is the left hand now and that fists in turn body and chop with fist are made with the left hand too?

    Oops!
That’s what just me, I got turned around in slanted flying. Not sure how, but now I’ve learned all this stuff backwards.
    Live and learn.
