    Just my personal experience
while practicing the Lake Palm at the lake,
Priest Lake in northern Idaho, U.S.,
as the wind pushed white caps onto shore.

In Module 17, Video Lesson 16,
“Yin and Yang Polarities and the Lake Palm”
Bruce waxes philosophical about “Using Bagua to release thoughts…”

So, I was curious about what happens when your arms cross and at that instant resolution happens between two polarities.
I had been trying to reach this realm with tai chi for decades.

First, I must say that nature has a way of intensifying an experience.
So starting with the feet, the waves crashing onto the beach got my bagua stepping into synchronization–crash/kuo bu–crash/bai bu..crash/kuo bu–crash/bai bu.

Second, my result was purely experiential; it had nothing to do with the facts.
I wouldn’t expect anyone to have the same experience or even to believe me.
    I have no proof.
(In the past I’ve had a couple such “experiences:”

one, I can literally see Qi between my thumb and index finger, and

two, once a real internal ball dropped from my upper-head area to my lower dantian,
which I compare to a coconut without the husk. This was not a visualization or imagery–a real coconut-sized ball with actual size, actual weight, actual color. I have not had this experience again. And what use is an internal coconut anyway?

Of course, no one believes any of this.

After a couple of hours practicing the Lake Palm, a violent storm made me retreat to my tent.
I meditated and mentally continued “resolving” polarities.
When I got past any polarity of yin and yang,
I experienced my past existence, my present existence and my future existence.
It was a feeling of the dimension of time not connected with my present life.
There were no attachments in this feeling.

I had resolved the classic question for myself, “Is there life after death?”
Or did we exist before we were born?
In terms of the I-Ching: where is After Heaven, Before Heaven.
I had experienced a feeling of existence before I was born, while I was living, and after I died.

Bruce said that when we do this thing (6:40)
we start becoming aware that when you have some powerful idea (6:45) it creates the feeling of an energy inside you (6:52).
It goes beyond your conscious thought (6:58 ).
Although I can’t say that this was an “energy” inside me, but an awareness of time not connected with any physicality or thought.

No, I was not eating the morels.

Of course, I can’t prove this with facts.

But Bruce has some profound insights to share with us.

    Bob,

Thanks for sharing this and for the humor: I’m still laughing about the usefulness of an internal coconut. On a more serious note, your post is a good personal reminder of how much more I need to learn and how much more Bruce has to offer.

    With all sincerity, thank you.

    Coconut, indeed!

A friend counsels me to distinguish fact from opinion.

The awareness of a prior existence was a personal, experential fact.

That it meant that there is life after death is an opinion,
    a personal opinion.

The internal coconut is so silly that my brain didn’t even try to draw any conclusions.

But I’m coming to agree with you James that ba gua is more powerful than tai chi chuan.
