So I have just been watching the Qing Yi Dvd and Frantzis mentions in DVD 2 about 53min in – if you have you don’t have arched feet then look into “5 rings” in opening of the energy gates. I don’t know what 5 rings is instead of a piece of Japanese martial art philosophy, so what is he talking about?

Hello there- I don’t know if you are familiar with the full Opening the Energy Gates, or Marriage of Heaven Earth, or the other “chi gung sets”.. but the Opening the energy gates chigung set have different components to it.. an instructor of that method was taught that ( I beleive what Bruce said int eh DVDs was if you have flat feet check with one of his cert instructors of that… )
Just as there are aspects in each of the systems (that are like syllables that can be assembled into words, or Lego-building blocks that can be used to make different shapes than just the set they came in).. but each has a few different lvls (even the second “level” is developed-from based-upon the first, but is quite different- not in the books, videos as hard to put in words.. -so each system-set isn’t just a few concepts, of a movement, but embeds different components)

    – so I could write something that tried to hint at the concept of the Five Rings (which isn’t described in a book- by Musashi :) but that wouldnt’ really help, and would just confuse, as the idea in modern popculture is- sort of get the idea, as it is like xyz.. so just assume. -which can be a good way to explore, but if you really want to learn it.. if you met with an Egates instructor, especially one that has done some sort of TuiNa or other hands-on physio-work..

(would you want to learn what you need to work on, to eventually made figure it out, or do you want to have the results? -not the same thing>. espec even knowing how to do it myself, I don’t know how effective I can do it to myself, vs I do it to another, or another works on me.. just mechanically, as well as outside influence- ettc.)

Anyway, if you are doing standing, espec santi, but even the XingI neutral stance- work on sung you spine to femur relationships- thus through the Kwa area, all the way links to back of pelvis– over time, not to destabilize it, but it allows it to adjust, over time, so after a year or so of ongoing standing, your system can make adjustments- top to bottom, which might help.

    Hi James,

the 5 rings are 5 places in the legs where you can profoundly reorganize the tissues of the legs to correct misalignments.

It’s much easier to show this than explain it but the rings are roughly located
    1. just above the ankle
    2. Just below the knee
    3. Just above the knee
    4. Mid thigh (ish)
    5. Diagonally following the line of the inguinal crease

The idea is to rotate one or more rings to change the alignment of a leg. If you experiment you might be able to find them but it would be best to find someone near you that knows them.
