AnonymousGuestIn the Qi Gong Sestion 8 video as I watch Bruce do the three bends he does not appear to bend his neck, however as he is having his assistant demonstrate he appears to have about 45 degrees of neck flexion but Bruce is also guiding his movement. I would like to know if there is a neck bend when the bends are initiated and where the bends are occurring in the spine. Thank you.

AnonymousGuestHello Grace.. the 3 bends is sort of tricky to see- espec from a distance (I think).. also the 3 being sort of 30%, then 60%, then the last (actually being 1/3 fractions of 70%-
… such that the same ‘curve’ is in each– ie the bend is more, but a gentle-arcing from the top of the head to the base of the tail.
In that sense- the neck (and in the skull) is actually just in the arc along with the rest of the spine (vs seeing it as bend the neck- if pull the head fwd, neck can bend more as it is freer.. but the movement should be done so that say the upper-back/between the shoulder-blades,- as well as mid and lower- moves equal to the neck, per the arc… even though the tendency may be to move the neck more… just as it can…this also looks different if the arc has the tailbone more pointing under- thus the central axis of the arc-bow is more horizontal.. vs if the tailbone is more pointing straight-down.. as then the central-axis of the arc-bow is a bit more aiming at ground (thus the entire bow is tipped a bit, so the head seems to aim a bit more down)..
body size and shape depend also (Bruce having shoulders and upper back of different proportions to Kurt- and Kurt, the asst in the video I believe you refer to, has a bit more neck proportion).. that could be what you mean… ? – I hope the above makes sense..

I tried to repeat the idea a few different ways (if it seems a bit repetitious) to emphasize the top of head to bottom of tail-bone as a single connected arc… rather than perceive it in parts, thus ‘bend the neck’— which may be how you were “already” seeing it.. thus your question.. –-it could just be a quick part where Bruce, I think, is saying what to do in the drill.. and how the parts coordinate (palms rotating-pting at that pt-mouth-nose.. rotate/head-fwd. rotate/head-fwd.. he was just pull-pushing the other’s head to show quickly… more the coordination -relation of parts of the drill.. not so much the details.. and that part I recall, per the speed and just push-pull, the neck moves more.. -better to compare the demo in other parts, and then the two people doing the act solo contrast– and might seem different, and thus my comments re- body-type, and some distinctions of how the movement is done.. etc.. help any? or hinder-confuse further
