I’ve just completed another pass at all of the palm changes. Although I had intended to methodically connect each of the eight layers to the etheric body, I still haven’t starting working on that fully. Instead, I ended up getting even clearer about each layer. The only one that I’ve managed to connect to the etheric to my satisfication was the shallowest and even that has to be revisited until it can be done at will and effortlessly.

I thought I’d jot down some thoughts about the palm changes that came out of this go around.

I’m still convinced that the Lake Palm is an integrator. It goes into the core channel (I’m making a distinction here that the core channel is the physical layer that is deepest inside the body. The central channel is deeper and non-physical.)

Mountain is the multi-dimensional. It develops that three guas and is arguably the start of Bagua Swimming Dragon. It has to be built on top of all the previous palm changes and the methods they represent and develop.

The Water Palm Change includes all of the technology for manipulating the vascular system. It starts in the bone marrow, then the lower tantient, then all of the guas, but ultimately is supposed to be done everywhere. As an aside the water fist of Hsing-I develops the same technology but only in the lower tantien. SImilarly, it is in Tai Chi but only in the lower tantien (This observation is straight from Bruce.) Bagua is more complete.

The Fire Palm Change develops the ligaments and tendons which seemed to be key to opening the fascia. I’m not sure why. The tissue of the ligaments and tendons seems to be virtually identical in feel. The difference is ligaments connect bone to bone and the tendons connect muscle to bone. The technology you want to learn is at the insertion point into the bone. This is common to both and seems to be the real way to penetrate the bones. I did it in a less efficient way in earlier passes at the material. The trick is to find how the chi travels along the tendon into the bone via the insertion point. This is what enables you to activate the muscles from the tendons rather from the muscular contraction. This is where focusing to a point seems to make sense. You concentrate on a single insertion, then you sequence one at a time (fingers, wrist, elbow, shoulder, etc.), then you can start to do them as a set simultaneously. I found that you can make the chi enter the bone and move within the layer. I didn’t explore this fully but it is possible and it helped to get the open and close from this layer when they are working as a set. The ligaments are just a little more complex than the tendons because you have two sides to do at once and you typically have two sides to the joint (one makes the limb flex and the other makes it extend). This makes the technology equally applicable to opening as closing. Note, the fascia just “kicked in” which started to feel like the internal organs were part of this as well. Again, it is too new to know for sure.

The Single Palm Change or the Heaven Palm has gotten much more generic. You can work it from a neigung perspective or see it as simply the yang energy. It is the opening of anything regardless of layer. This is why the palm changes are independent of the layers and the energy bodies. The point is that everything can open.

The Double Palm Change or Earth Palm is the complimentary opposite of The Heaven Palm. It is the energy of going in. It is yin. It is closing ( although you can close using a yang energy). This closing is uniquely absorbing in energy. Again you can approach it from a neigung perspective, but the change is about the “energy”.

Wind and Thunder are example of mixing yin and yang. Wind is a mixing where they don’t touch. Thunder is where they bash into each other. The Wind Palm Change seemed be more about the organs or getting to them as well as the emotions that are stored in the organs tissue. Where the Thunder palm seemed more about the nerves and spine and mind. I used lot of neigung to explore these and I’m not convinced I’ve fully grasped either of them. I plan to go back to the BMP for each and see if I can get a clearer bead on them particularly the Wind Palm.
