You could consider these (Bagua, Dragon Bagua, and Swimming Dragon Bagua) clear demarcations or an over simplified progression.
Bagua refers to mundane physical movement or form. This is the stage of movement arts that focuses on form movement and spans a wide spectrum from clumsy muscular movement to very sophisticated “internal” movement like most people do Tai Chi and Bagua.
The second stage, Dragon Bagua, requires an understanding and release of the nerves. It is the purpose and secret behind all of the lateral side to side twisting. This is a huge upgrade over the previous stage and is key to not getting so stuck.
The Swimming Dragon phase is when you go beyond the nervous system and start moving based on connected pressure linked to the body in very sophisticated ways. It opens the door to the central channel and spirit.
