I’ve been practicing cloud hands according to Bruce’s teaching in month 13, and now note that in the month 14 ‘walk through’ of the second third of the form the transition from cloud hands to single whip has changed. Why is this and which version should I be practicing? Personally, I find the second way flows better.

Hello there, we’ve reviewed the footage from the month 13 session 2 and month 14 session 39 and didn’t find any descrepancies in the way single whip was done. Can you let us know which month 13 video and a time stamp on where it might have been done differently?

    Thanks

In the practice clips for cloud hands in month 13, clips 15 and 16, in the transition from cloud hands to single whip, there is a pivot to the right diagonal to sink the wrist ahead of making the beak, without a ‘cloud hands’ type step left. When Bruce walks through in month 14, clip 36 at 13 minutes 33 seconds, as he pivots to sink the wrist before making the beak hand, he steps out to the left (on reviewing his initial overview in month 13 clip 2 he does this also). So it seems there is a difference between the cloud hands practice clips and the instructional clips.

Hello again, the way Bruce is stepping out left to make the pivot to the right is the correct way for the Old Yang style. Our models are experienced in both Wu and new Yang forms. Since this is first time Bruce has taught this style our models were also learning the sublties as the program was being filmed.
