    Hi Daniel,

I drink coffee (in moderation mostly) and tea (I drink lots of tea :).

I recently discovered an article about tea master Paul Rosenberg (google: heavens tea) who uses aged puerh and aged oolongs as plant medicine to open and clear energy centers and meridians. I found this quite interesting because I love drinking tea before my qi practice. This seems to be a rare practice since I am unable to find much other literature or practitioners of tea as an energy art.

Daniel Reid also wrote a book called Alchemy of tea- Ive yet to read it but I believe it goes into detail about tea as an energy art.

Hope this helps and happy cha qi,

    kevin

    Hello Again Daniel,

I realized that I did not actually answer your question!

From Paul Rosenberg’s point of view and Im sure many others, when oolong and puerh tea ages, the caffeine content goes way down.

Perhaps that could be an alternative if you are concerned about caffeine?

I enjoy mixing my cha and my chi but Im sure there are other opinions on the topic out there somewhere.

    Cheers!

    kevin thanks

i will definitely check out “alchemy of tea”
there seems to be much info and much of it is conflicting
someone did mention kenneth cohen is not only a qigong master but supplier and producer of fine tea as well
personally i quit coffee about 10 days ago and practice is much more settled with a pronounced grounded feeling
i know matcha green tea is used by many zen folks as well as in the japanese tea ceremony
however i am impressed with this little “no caffeine” experiment i am presently conducting and interested in where it’s headed

    thanks again

    cheers

    Hi again Daniel,

The great thing about tea is that it’s makeup contains substances that block the caffeine effects of coffee (jitters, rapid heart beat, etc,, ) yet retains the mental clarity and increase of awareness. There is clearly a connection between the Meditation traditions of china and the use of tea. The more I read about tea as an energy art the more I get inspired and intrigued.

I recall seeing this thought arise in pop-culture yrs ago and wonder where it started from- ie the Caffeine affects, vs the coffee jittery…

which actually seems to come from impurities in the prep-process (espec mold-fungus in the drying of the beans… and “acids” that develop in how they are stored- which is what, as I understand, is what causes that “irritation”… thus why “pure caffeine extract” does not.. and high-end prepared coffee beans (espec from the region itself- will feel “purer” (and yet not “less caffeine) vs going through the warehouse-storage period, distribution etc.). ..
espec as some tested samples of say a batch (depends upon how it is made, of course) of green-tea can have higher caffeine than a sample of coffee.. (yet there is talk about tea having less.. just per)..

above medicinal topic of tea, more a basis in the Medical-Soup Recipes (Trad Chinese Herbal mixes.. which may include tea leaves… but prep’d via hot water…. drained.. thus the reference)… some authors, as referenced, will mention passingly, so as to conversationally bring up some good ideas (makes nice read through, not but a definitive reference IMO).. vs it being a systemic-approach (say if in reference to 5 qualities.. WuHsing/5elements.. or Ayurveda – actually applied/tested over time. beyond what might sound good… assuming one wanted to go into such depth in the subject). —but most of all, the charge of Inspiration and becoming Intrigued (interested), is the re-enlivenment..
