AnonymousGuestWhen I loose my concentration scanning from head to toes can I continue where I left off at the point of distraction or do I need to start again from the top of the head?

AnonymousGuestFrom what I understand, the answer would be to start over. When we loose concentration it’s basically like a short in the circuit. There’s a continuum that needs to be congruent all the way from head to toe for the fullest benefit.
When the distraction occurs for what ever reason and we loose our focus, it’s like the gauge of our stamina, like the gauge of a wire – in relation to electricity – is too light. If we take this idea and think of the electrical signal traveling in slow motion from switch to light, if there are NO breaks in the wire then of course the light comes on. If along that same path we cut a break in the wire, that’s like distraction. If we assume that the wire is organic and can grow, then we would have to keep sending the signal from the light switch essentially starting over again and again, switching from “off” to “on” repeatedly until the break is fixed and re-attached by means of continued effort through which growth occurs. Hopefully this analogy helps.
So our stamina for focused awareness is at the time too weak. It will grow as we progress – 70% rule and all.
This is how I conceive of it anyway.

AnonymousGuestThats a great analogy, thanks steve.
I feel like learning the first movement properly may take quite a few months, but thats what its all about. It sure helps having such helpful comments on this forum to help with some of the minor details.Kevin

AnonymousGuestHi Kevin (good question) and Steve (good answer),
I just wanted to add one additional bit of practical advice. I agree with Steve that if you need to and/or have the time to start over from the top of the head, that is probably the best option. However, another option would be to return to a point somewhere above where the distraction occurred, then resume the downward scanning/dissolving. I find this helpful if the distraction is not too great, or if I have limited time.
