    Hi,

While practicing, especially in standing posture or in heaven and earth, I feel a strong pain under my feet. This pain is concentrated at the extremities, at the big toes and in the area just below the little toes.

I tried to put more weight in the heel but I loose my balance.

Any advice would me more than welcome as this pain prevent me from practicing.

    All the best

Hi, Julien. I’m not a senior student or anything, but it sounds to me like this is a straight ahead medical issue and you should see a doctor. Can’t hurt…

    Good luck with it.

Hello- my experience when I first began to working Chi-release in earnest…. I found that as the “holding” in my body let-go, especially the soles of my feet softened, which resulted in a feeling that the bones of my feet were crushing/almost cutting down…

(this was practicing upon hardwood, when before I’d been on carpet, or linoleum, or even grass.. but more the issue was if there is some degree of contraction in the feet- bottom, but also up shin/knee, etc… then that holds that.. nearly all have this, I’ve found, and just as the joints of the feet/legs feel strange as you actually let gravity press-into them.. likewise the bottom of feet… — especially if the bones of the foot are locked.)
-this might be a bigger issue, but I find it is a gradual adjustment- getting the foot-bones, just as if you can move and flex the bones of your hands.. (tune-in to them now, can the wrist bones, all the bones in the palm, etc. move or to what degree are the palms, and in parallel the feet, solid chumps..)

    ……..
To address- the above is more context, but also just a note that I feel this develops as the energy can flow (it may start to keep in as this shifts- .. strongly.. be sure and settle/sink, but not “push it down” as a holding.. just feeling/flow with gravity.. mind open and following/yield-adhere-stick…)… the approach is more simple, and yet seems to be counter-our-culture.. and thus Counter-“intuitive”..

-have a chair near and stand only 70% such that you are 70% of 100% feeling ok.. but starting to feel discomfort.. take a quick break (I’m talking a moment, or a minute at most… and the idea that you may have to take 10-20 different stops.. and restarts… not just once.. – if at first you only stand a few minutes.. and then pause, and then restand and then.. etc.. Just like “heavy lifting” gymnastics-balancing, or Circuit-training…
Note: (not 70% of 100% of the most pain you can take in your feet :).. nor just plan ‘I’m going to std, so I’m doing it..” thus tough it out… -and this is the counter-part… sit, and/or walk a bit “before” you get to the oww (and yet keep the “thread” of practice- not break it off, so that once you return.. in a moment or a minute.. there is some connection)

With these two aspects (the latter- within each training session, little exposures so that none are too much.. which the former- recog that bones of feet may still be bound, while the soles are releasing and thus the entire body weight pressing.. -if both bones and tissue released together, less noticed.. but that balance doesn’t seem to occur….

It is so easy to practice even barefoot on wood floor and yet still have tension in the calf-leg/hip and foot… as that is released, and Kwa opens, a waterfall sense can arise..

Luck- see what you find, and mention later as you practice this… -cheers

Tank you very much Mathew and Tokua,

    Both of you are right.
I finally decided to see a doctor, who told me that the last phalanges of my big toes have slightly curved Inside, and that the pain under my little toes is a consequence of it. To sum up, he said to me : you have two options : surgical procedure or nothing to do.

Tokua, indeed, shifting from standing to sitting position allows me to continue on the path of chi circulation, even if it’s a bit frustrating. Avoiding hard floor better a bit also. I’m wondering if after years of practising (I’m a beginner), the process of body realignment can have positive effects on my phalanges…

    All the best
