    I may have discovered how to find and create emptiness. While performing the Fire Palm, I found a place that is neither yin nor yang – it is just spacious. I can create it inside the bones while the opposing twisting targets the middle (inside the bones and between the twisting). I can do this inside the bones and using the guas in the Lake Palm Change. I need to train this and see where it goes. It may just be another part of spiraling. Bruce always said if you aren’t sure it isn’t it. But, he also says that emptiness has degrees and I wonder if this is just the first inkling of what it really is – “the shadow before you get to the object”.

    Nope, just a more sophisticated way to work with the Fire Palm Change and spiraling energy.

    I didn’t want to forget that spiraling not only works sections of limbs going in opposing directions, it also works the guas similarly as well as opposing layers of tissue. All of this is for one purpose: target an area.

    The Wind Palm does exactly the same thing for the same purpose except it is intersecting two sides (whether those sides are left/right, up/down, front/back, or center/periphery doesn’t matter). The Water Palm Change uses fluid pressure to target. The Lake Palm Change seems to specialize in using spiraling generated by the lower and upper guas to target any spot or section of the central channel.

    My emptiness comes from the lower dantian at the end of an inhalation;
    it’s the black ink in the hollow of an ink stone.

    As I exhale I load my brush with the ink and paint —
    maybe spirals in my bone marrow–
    maybe a smile in my heart-mind

    I think this marks the end of the yang phase for me. I think I can perform every palm change at any depth including using the central channel. But, it is all done with yang expansion.

    Whether I’m bending, closing, going down, spiraling this way or that – it is all using yang expansion. I may switch between the upward spiral of Heaven to the downward spiral of Earth, but it is still a yang expansion.

    I’ll train this until I can do it with ease and then move onto the yin phase and the 16.
