AnonymousGuestAt the end of the Fire Palm Change, Bruce does a final turn. He closes the outside hand into a fist while the other opens.
I’ve watched several of his students who learned the Fire Palm from Bruce in weekly classes. I noticed that they all close both hands during this final turn. Bruce didn’t get to this part of the form when I learned from him. He only demonstrated the form a couple of times.
I usually don’t pay attention to this type of detail because you can do just about anything internally. I only noticed this because while practicing I noticed that I wanted to create a closing spiral and an opening spiral simultaneously while performing this final turn.
Did anyone ever learn this part of the form from Bruce and if so, did he explain any detail that would be useful to know?

AnonymousGuestnever had any personal instruction from Bruce
However, at Module 14, Video Lesson 09, at 0.39 – 0.40
after he has been demonstrating the arm movements of the Fire Palm,
he’s been rotating both hands clockwise
at 0.39 both hands are at head level,
on the center line (at 12 o’clock),
and at 0.40 BOTH hands have formed fists,
as he lowers both hands to the right,
the right fist passes under the left elbow,
forearms cross,
(I think that right is in front of left–I’d have to go back to the video)So, at least at one time he closes both fists,
(sometimes Bruce’s movements stray from his announced intent)If you want to have an opening and closing spiral simultaneously,
why not morph into the Lake Palm Change
for a short revolution
and end in a Yin Yang Fish Palm position
one hand in front,
one behind,
one side wrapping, spiraling leftward up (Bao Mai),
the other wrapping, spiraling rightward (Dai Mai)which creates a yin yang balance
which supports the
Ren Mai and Du Maijust brainstorming.

AnonymousGuestThis is fun.
Now I’m micro-viewing Video Lesson 20 (Module 14–Fire Palm)
iPhone on landscape,
WhenBruce is facing viewer I turn the iPhone around so our right hands correspond;
when his back is to the screen then I turn the iPhone back to normal, so again our right hands correspond;
then I quickly pause-play-pause-play so as to capture each movement–
works pretty good
At 0.31 Bruce is demonstrating the Fire Palm Change
up and down, up and down,
his right hand forms the “Lao Gong” fist,
(he’s made the spirals smaller and smaller,
going from skin-1 to bone-6 to marow-7,
but he keeps the left hand open
and then the right fist opens again as he switches to the Single Palm ChangeLater at 0.54 he’s going the other way and
the left fist only closes
and his right fist stays openSo go for it James.
