I was told that every system of kung fu has a form of fundamentals called ji ben gong. What were the ji ben gong taught to students before learning the tai chi forms to build the kung fu body for practitioners?

    hi mark

in the energy arts system, it seems that bruce’s chi gung sets function as foundation training. the advantage I see for this is that whether your learning taiji, bagua, hsing-i, chi gung tui na, or meditation, you can use the same material, making it much easier to understand the similarity between these arts, rather than teaching different foundations for each art.

in other taiji methods, standing practice is seen as the place where you can really get your gong fu on. :-)
(energy gates is the EA form that teaches standing)

bruce mentions in PIMA that many top internal artists have “sung” the praises of standing practice to build the internal infrastucture to let your taiji rise to a high level of skill. (sung is relaxed/balanced/coordinated, bad joke perhaps)

anyway, this is my take on it, anyone else got something to add? love to hear about it…
