AnonymousGuestTaoists may have been feeling the inside of their brains for thousands of years, but nowadays surgeons are doing wide awake brain surgeries. How is this possible if it is possible to feel the insider of the brain?

AnonymousGuestJust a thread (pointing of a path)- it seems you are connecting ‘able to feel’ and ‘sensitive to pain’.. if doesn’t feel pain, then can’t feel? … and yet further, brain surgery?
-we also do surgery on hands (even fingertips), let alone inside mouths (ie dental, orthodontists): does that mean that one cannot feel with one’s hands (even cannot feel with one’s fingertips?), nor feel inside mouths? (and yet how oft is mouth-surgery done ‘as a result of’ tooth-“ache”)…Perhaps the state of healthy ( un-‘opened-up’ ) is a bit different than surgically opened (yet there is local, as well as general, anesthesia- yet that a pain-killer isn’t applied inside the skull seems to distract from the pain from even a slight scratch, let alone a gash, in one’s scalp…
ie before the brain is revealed, the scalp/hair-line is cut, and the skull is bone-drilled and cut and then peeled off.. is it believed that no ‘pain medicine’ is needed/used for that? thus the general-state of the body is already a bit “traumatized”…To circle back to fingertips (which don’t have “muscles” in them.. there are small muscles around the palm-hand-jts, but the muscles are down/up near the elbow)- so the can one feel there.. to take that further, can one who has learned/trained/practiced as a manual-watch-maker, or any other “fine-tune” manipulation— has developed an great increase in nerve-control (and sensitivity)… over time.
[another ex of a fine-tune profession, nerve-sheath manip of brain-surgeons…](but to assume they started out that way? or that I’ll try, heck I can hardly feel anything.. so it wouldn’t develop, drips and drabs.. like stacking up sheets of paper, or tracing-onion paper.. thinly stacking, grow so slowly, but over time (GungFu?).. the stack does grow, and becomes like a block of wood (even if still it is separate sheets in a stack). looking upon that stack once it has achieved a density, it seems a thing apart, but one starts where one is.
The biggest issue I’ve found, is not so much can one feel xyz place.. but can people feel in where they think they can? Can one feel, say the tip of a finger, or the tip of your nose .. not as an image, that one tells one’s self a story about, not as an abstraction (like a mental “map of the room” with hazy X-marks the spot(s) for people/places/things in the room..
just check in and scan the enviro to note changes, then go back to the “Cliff Notes” map with symbol-markings.. but to stay with present perception..
–and not abstract what ‘that” is supposed to mean, simple and easy to do- but not what we’ve been trained to.. (simple and easy, as to just look and see- what a child does? but trained out of.. good to have the skill otherwise, but to “put your Mind into __” is like a muscle:
first can only put a “drop of water” of that ‘mind’ there.. and only for a moment, before it disperses..
but then not only for a bit longer a time, but of a bit more “water”.. a bit more weight/mass/density-‘presence’ of Mind..
Not as what that means, but just like creating the field-affect of Peng vs of An.. like the magnetic field emitted into the area from-to your skin.. at first that awareness-presence is so faint.. and evanescent.. but then endures a bit, and becomes more distinct (until then, was it or not? was it imagined? how to tell- but when it is clear to sense, it is there and stay long enough to notice.. for you to notice the affect of it on yourself… (and even for another to notice the sense of it, affecting yourself, that place)
slightly kidding, but mentioned before on this forum- if you need to bang your head (to be able to feel there, as well as to remember that the scalp and skull can feel pain, and the more ‘gentle’ sensations)… that can make it as obvious as “a knock on the head” …..December 27, 2015 at 9:23 am #135455
AnonymousGuestAlso simpler follow-on (I wasn’t sure if another would comment this)-
there is a different between Nociception (‘pain’ sensing), and mechanoreception (or tactile perception/’touch’)..====
let alone embodied awareness (including proprioception, as well as haptic sensing).. just to use the latin/scientific type words….ie if the sensitivity is low (and the awareness is dim/ asleep- fogged), then the only way you can hear is if someone “shouting” (the volume all the way up).. or you can’t sense a touch, let alone a breeze, if you arm has “gone numb …. but only senses a harsh -pain… (and in the skull it seems there are a lack of pain receptors that trigger “red-alerts”.. of course that is difficult to judge, and so misleading.. anyone have their scalp cut.. hurts… alot
so have your scalp cut, and your skull cut open, (the only way to access brain-grey-matter).. have that opened up, without pain medication? (they only mean injected into that area… but not as if they haven’t been given something to get to that point.. if you find someone that hasn’t been given any pain medication before or during that cutting open the skull….
do people think there is an inner control-room? a place where there is a “TV viewscreen” where someone-else views what one is aware of? -where are they?/where is that? if not, then what role is the grey-matter ? (“It is sort of a grey-area.”) -
