AnonymousGuestI was wondering if anyone else had, or is having, as bad a time as I – understanding specifically what we are supposed to do in Turn Body and Chop with Fist. After months of explicit step by step instruction I was really taken by surprise with this video.
Granted, the end part – Grass Sparrow’s Tail – was previously taught and just a visual run through is good enough. However, it seems as if this was more of a, “This is what I’m doing. Now copy it.” method of instruction that I was not prepared for.
Just wondering how others might have fared.

AnonymousGuestFor me, I accidentally learned slanted flying up to fan through the back backwards and had to reintegrate it the right way round. So that has been difficult. But, be fair, this is a long move, regardless of the familiarity of the bulk of it it still is being put into the body and that takes time, and, again, big move, probably gonna take more time.
Bruce mentioned “been there done that” in the meditation section this month and I feel the same applies to the familiar portions. Also as he has said, the repeat of the moves ups the ampage of chi so that might make it more difficult too, as a thought.
I do, however, often feel the same way about the videos , i.e. “here, do this”. However, when that happens, I give it a rest, let things integrate and kinda wait for my body to say that it is ready to learn. Then, I see Bruce ostensibly explicitly saying “do this” but, between the lines, is that substantial portion that really lets you know the moves. And yet, if you’re a raw beginner, as I, learning the moves or “doing this” is about all you can do.
PS: I’m having a difficult time with this move too, but, as advertised, I end up doing it a little better everyday through the virtue of letting it happen.May 2, 2016 at 1:55 am #135681
AnonymousGuestBruce excels at analyzing the energies and principles of each posture.
Some players get overwhelmed by all this.
You might try other presentations which primarily demonstrate the Long Form from start to finish–one of my favorites is Dr. Yang Jwing Ming’s book and DVD and app.

What really helped was watching the videos S25 Postural Points Turn Body and Chop with Fist and S29/30 Beginner/Intermediate Level Practice Turn Body and Chop with Fist.
I think seeing the moves preformed by many people and from as many angles as possible is always a plus – especially when learning from video.
