Hello! I’ve been practicing standing meditation and classic mantra meditation for some time, and I’m trying to find a good balance between the two. Any input would be really helpful!!!

    Here’s the question–

I’ve found that standing qigong meditation is most pleasant, and I think it has a great effect throughout the whole day. I do it in the morning.

Is doing 20 minutes of mantra meditation in the evening a good pairing with this? Or would this be too much meditation? Also, most mantra meditations recommend doing it 2x a day. Would it be okay to substitute it with 25 minutes or so of standing qigong for the morning session? (I’m talking about the classic qigong standing meditation, the one in which you stand like a tree.)

There’s no guru in my area, so I thought I’d post this question here.

    Thank you guys!!!

Excellent question and I hope you get lots of well experienced replies.

The question strikes me as important because we spend, ideally, 8 hours sleeping in which, according to Tibetan Buddhism, we are essentially going through practice runs of the Bardo after life. Physically, the restorative processes for the muscular, neurologic, skeletal and all other systems are also vital. So I have to assume that the role of Chi here is huge and that there is a potential to prepare sleep, through some kind if Qigong, to get Chi flow more productive.

Right now, the only thing I found is essentially longevity breathing plus awareness of body tension (is this outer dissolution?). This is essentially the meditation taught by Eckhart Tolle or what new-agers call “body of light”.

    Others please share your thoughts?

If you don’t want to fly out of your head, don’t excite your head in the evening. Why not flying into DanTien, then the head is secundary.
