While working on the Lake Palm this morning I started to realize how it could be used to open the middle gua. Basically, I’m just connecting one arm to the lower gua and the other to the upper gua and creating two spirals. One going up and the other going down. Note it is more complicated than this but for simplicity this is enough. The important point is that they are going at each other. Although they don’t have to, in this practice I’m using the two guas to target the central channel in the middle and using that to open the middle gua. So, this fulfills a long time goal of understanding how I open the lower gua, open the upper gua, and use the lower and upper guas to open the middle gua. Bruce has mentioned this many, many times over the years.

I’ve also realized that everything I’m doing is organized around yang expansion. I’ve found the yin absorption before, but that only confuses things. I don’t think the yin absorption is used at this stage. It comes later. The definition of yin at this point is different than later. The 8 are first fully understood from a yang expansion. Then approached from the yin absorption perspective. That’s the 16.

At the end of the 16, the trigrams are ultimately instructions for the guas. Each line will determine whether the gau is expanding (yang line) or absorbing (yin line). This will fulfill the Bruce’s statement in the New York Bagua event that the trigrams are ultimately instructions for the guas. This can’t happen until you have trained enough to access all three.

I’ve returned to the Heaven Palm Change. Everything is yang lines. Each segment is using the double-helix spiral just as the guas are. The hands, the forearms, the upper arms, the shoulder blades in the upper body and the feet, shins, femurs, and pelvis in the lower body. They all coordinate. They all create the same double-helix and the same expansion in the middle. It is all yang. And they are all continuing to open the body from the middle gua and central channel. This is what makes Bagua unique. It is what makes Bagua, Bagua.
