In Module 13 video 1 at 3:15, Bruce mentions two ways that the energy of the Thunder Palm manifests: 1) pulling apart and 2) smashing together. I’ve always worked on smashing together, but just found the pulling apart version in the form which I’m using just after the turn that uses the swimming palm movement.
It’s this pulling apart and smashing together that makes the Thunder Palm distinct from Hsing-I’s Beng Chuan. Where Beng Chuan works more like a Nordic Track pulley system with one side pulling (condensing) and the other pushing (expanding), the Thunder Palm has the two sides either pulling apart or smashing together. These are distinctly different.
When I found the pulling apart, I found how the Thunder Palm manifests using the circles and spirals of neigung #9. Prior to that I primarily used lengthening and opening and closing to manifest the palm change.
