I have been doing the Wu Chi stand for four months now and I am doing 10-15 minute stands and today did a good 20 minute stand for the first time. Yet because I’m very fat (and 62) I am unable to do the Dragon and Tiger movements without tremendous strain. I am losing weight as I stand, so that is promising, but if I am unable to do D&T, what other low-impact postures could you recommend?

    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,

If you enjoy doing standing chi gung, you can continue practicing that material when you sit in a chair or lay down. I’d recommend getting Bruce’s book, Opening the Energy Gates. It explains how to do standing chi gung and I also believe it talks a little bit about how to do the same material while sitting down or laying down.

Thanks for your advice. I’ll look into the Energy Gates book.

I am up to 30-40 minute stands now and I am trying the modified D&T movements from the very useful DVD.

I am a practicant fo ChiGong since more than twenty years, I was thinking to start Tai Chi as well, but I am quite confused about the similarities and the differences. I my sself find many movements are very similar, specially if you cut them into pieces, but if they are so similar, why do they have, as I think diefferent results, or in otherwords, if we call the Chi which is pure energy is the one which results after long training of Tai Chi, we are going to get the same result in Chi Gong, but in Chi Gong I think the energy is much bigger, although while training Tai Chi you are practicing the movements comlete and not as small parts. From my experience in Chi Gong, I find it takes, may be the same time to find the energy inside the body, but the diference is the amount of energy what comes out of the Chi Gong.
