Have been practicing Wu Style short form for over 2 years as a means of dealing with a ballooned disc the painful symptoms of which disappeared for 18 months and then resurfaced very recently-in the last 3 months- far more severely than previously.experienced. I started the Yang style Tai Chi training circle 4 months ago and the form really resonates with me and have enjoyed and appreciated the many “secrets” that Bruce has shared with us. It feels right. The first 2 lessons in lifting hands month 5 are incredibly powerful and the integration of this into the Wu Style can only but increase the health benefits received so thank you so much for this hidden gem. When practicing the mini-form to single whip in the Yang Style I emphasized the weight shift of 100 percent onto each leg. Twice in the course of the training I had pain in the heel of my right foot and to a lesser degree in my left. I immediately went back to the ” 70 percent rule” and so far it has not returned. The pain in my lower back is fine if i am walking around but as soon as I lay horizontal the pain often returns. I have gone back to the 70 per cent rule for Yang Style now and wonder whether it was my desire to put the focus of 100 per cent weight shift in the Yang Style that may have exacerbated the problem. In Vipassana meditation they suggest that you do not focus on the mental and physical phenomena that this discipline engenders since this can lead to attachment and all the problems of trying to repeat the experience and missing out on the greater spiritual journey that lies beyond this. How does this apply in Energy Arts? In Tai Chi now I get a coldness moving up and down my spine and through my arms almost like coldish water it does not start from the feet and move up the body but appears primarily in the lower and upper spine and neither does it have any warmth. Since I have no previous experience of Chi how do I know what it is I am experiencing.. What are the physical symptoms of chi? Should I just acknowledge its existence or should I strive to be in control of this experience and to create this phenomena in all parts of my body? Thank you Bruce sharing your life’s work with the world it owes you a major debt.
