I’ve been listening to portion about advanced alignment and I’m confused about the part where it talks about expanding the knees. I’m good with the basic alignments but I don’t know how to do this part.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello John,

In the advanced alignement recording Paul discusses two ways of opening the back of the knees: one is through the back of the knees itself, which he says is the hardest, and through the pelvis, which is an indirect but easier method. When you use the pelvis to open the knees, you ‘lift’ the pelvis off of the femur bones. The difficulty lies in not changing the angle of the pelvis or the knees.
I find it not that easy myself. You easily tense up when ‘lifting’ the pelvis or the knees. Key is to stay relaxed. Developing body awareness takes time, but eventually pays off.

    Hello John,

In the recording Paul discusses two ways of opening the knees. One is by working directly with the knees, which is the hardest method if you are not used of working with / feeling the body. The second method is indirectly by lifting the pelvis off of the femur bones. The latter is easier to do. In both cases, I think the key is to stay relaxed, and not force the process.
