    Hello Everyone,
I am really enjoying the meditation series and am very thankful that Bruce is sharing his teaching and his gifts with the world.
Now that the series is at the level of having me pay attention to my mind/body at the same time I notice a great deal of anger, frustration, and right hip pain happening at the same time. Especially when I have to “sit still” in the midst of things in life I don’t like.

When I focus on the “it” in my right hip sometimes the pain gets better right away, sometimes it takes longer. I have been examined and told that pain muscle and not bone but if I don’t correct the muscle problem in time it will become a bone issue.
I really want to take this head on because I think its pretty fundamental to many struggles I have in life with anger/defense.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thank you

    Steve Smith, Maryland

Im sure there are people here that know far more about Chinese Medicine than me. However anger is usually associated with the liver, and the fact you have problems with your right hip (the side of the liver) may be relevant.

I have had problems with arthritic type pain, and its well worth seeing a good acupuncturist / Chinese herbalist, to clear damp heat from the system.

Its worth altering your diet to avoid foods that will aggravate such an inflamed condition, particularly avoiding things from the nightshade family (potatoes etc) you could look at Davorick Leggets book on Recipes for Self Healing which is excellent on the energetic properties of different foods. Patrick Holfords book on liver cleansing is very good as well

In terms of Chi Kung I would recommend “Marriage of heaven and earth” as the pulsing energy that is stimulated is very good for all the joints and the second part of the move can be used specifically to clear the liver. It can clear anger from the system quite nicely, which can be an experience! (its spring now also so good to work the wood element, which marriage does)

In meditation “where the attention goes the energy flows” so by focusing on your site of pain you will be becoming much more aware of whats going on and also the increased energy may either power up the block (not good) or release the block (good) both of which can make the anger appear to increase. You obviously want to pay attention in a relaxed way with the gentle intention for it to release in its own time, rather than trying to burn through the block “Mantak style” ;)

The Kwa movement in cloud hands can be very helpful to relieve hip pain but I would say do it really gently as its such a powerful move its very easy to overdo it.

    Hope this helps, good luck!
