Just thought I’d post a comment here- something in the EArts Training circle (3rd ~OldYang), in the section on chigung.. it mentions how the Irimi (and other) aspects of Aiki Hand…not only comes from Bagua (and thus relates to IronPalm systems, as in other ‘Kung-Fu’ martial methods).. which Bruce has mentioned before (espec in the book “The Power of Int’l MartialArts”).. but I don’t recall him mentioning that; “All of that (energy development work- in BaguaZhang) came from/out of The Marriage of Heaven&Earth chigung set.”

-put in the case that Commencement, M of H&E, and the first/intro movement in the G.Playing set, all have some similiarities.. and are “symmetrical”
    – while other NeiGung (like Egates&SpirialingEbody, and martial systems: Bagua/HsingI as well as, clearly, TaiChiSets) are non-symmetrical (ie R&L sides are not mirror- ie both Right and Left arms rise up, or descend, or ‘hug’ inwards to each other, in the same balanced way)…

thus not only to develop the system, and its components, but also to wire-in connections (like the LiuHe/ SanWeiHe: linkages). -whether those reading this are not in the current Training circle (and so don’t see that video/content) or for those that are in the Training-circle who are also reading these forum-cats also, in case that adds to any….

Does that relate any other connections for those reading? (or was that already obvious?) – more of these similarities seem to be AHAing for me recently :)

    well,
I go with the idea that no one knows the origin of bagua.

Just a few random thoughts here.

“Heaven” and “Earth” are fundamental concepts in Chinese culture.

    The I-Ching developed these concepts.

Daoyin, Qigong, taiji, bagua and all Chinese martial arts/energy arts draw upon the Book of Changes.

So it’s natural to connect the “Marriage of Heaven and Earth” QiGong/Neigong to any form of martial art.

I get really confused with asymmetries–
but yin and yang can be asymmetrical, too.
Balancing them (marrying them) is the struggle of Man between Heaven and Earth.
Qi runs both ways and contra-laterally both ways.
It’s a matter of focus and intent to achieve a purpose.

    But in the end
    in and yang are one.

Hello there- glad to see another might have an interest in this subject.. I appreciate your comments, although just to clarify, if my post was confusing

    — the Marriage of Heave&Earth being related was (as I understood the comment) the actual mechanics and energetics.. not just the name/terms/ideas, but how the energy is extended (in particular to energize and fill-the-hands)…

[as the chigung set, I’ve learned it during many different yrs, and still find more in that set.. and some of the others Bruce teaches.. so there are particulars involved, beyond what may seem a general movement.]

I like the way you (Bob) phrased the following:
    >> I get really confused with asymmetries–
but yin and yang can be asymmetrical, too.
Balancing them (marrying them) is the struggle of Man between Heaven and Earth.<<

asymmetry has a number of meanings- that are illustrative in terms of a general-theory/balancing (as physics interps).. [and to directly relate marriage, to balancing, is interesting- although is only one relation, I think.] -interesting though…

[It’s a matter of focus and intent to achieve a purpose.] -“focus and intent’ seems to imply the ‘decision of the con-mind’ which is the realm of most modern-speakers/authors.. while to enter the actions coming-from the HSIN (heart-mind, root of change and arising-action) seems to be a primary- gate of NeiGung (teacher can take you ‘to’ the gate, but you have to enter… and once inside that courtyard….. -what can be found, and crafted…).

I didn’t watch that segment, but for sure the “Lengthening” is great for Irimi and other yang, outwardly expressive movements. Also for the first Ba Gua palm change which is “Heaven”. It expresses outward, opening, lengthening energy.

But for Ba Gua, overall, Gods Playing in the Clouds includes the type of nei gung that’s best for Ba Gua Zhang: Winding, Twisting, Spiraling, Wrapping, etc

Whereas Heaven & Earth uses Opening & Closing, Lengthening, Pulsing, etc which is a perfect fit for the combination punching, jackhammering style of Hsing-I.

Obviously all three of the main sets (Energy Gates, Heaven & Earth, and Gods) are useful for all three of the main IMA styles (Tai Chi, Hsing-I, Bagua).
