AnonymousGuestThis past month I’ve got my first real battle with oblivion during sitting. I find it somewhat exhausting to have to be constantly vigilant against this. Distractions seem easy to overcome in comparison to this nothingness which drags me away from presence. This is like a powerful mind state that tries to take over my sessions. Can anybody suggest anything or do I just keep battling until it is over?

AnonymousGuestWhy don’t you try going with it (the “nothing” that you’re experiencing) rather than resisting it, cause it’s probably “something” rather than “nothing”, you just don’t know what yet. I’ve had somewhat similar experiences before and in “going with the flow” rather than resist it, I come out on the other-side with a transforming/realizing experience. It could be that something is drawing your consciousness in a certain direction so that you may grow a little more or transition to YOUR next level.
The “fight” or struggle may lead to frustration, and the avoidance may keep you curious as to what the “nothing” is.
Go down the rabbit hole and see where it takes you.August 15, 2012 at 2:46 pm #132574
AnonymousGuestThank you Steven for the thoughtful advice. I will try your suggestion. I was considering this state more like a distraction from presence but maybe, as you say, it is something else entirely.
