Is anyone else still stuck on the three-part straight line walking?

I’ve started 3 part circle walking about 2 weeks ago. Circle walking seems to be better, especially since I don’t have to turn all the time like with line walking (in a room).

I got really stuck with twisting. As per Bruce’s comment in another thread, we are not supposed to move further until we get some sense with the twisting. So now I’m still there and confused.

Yes i am too. Although when trying circle walking and four part walking they, to me, seem a little easier for me than the three part walking. But yes, i’m still working on three part walking.

Twisting is one of the 16 Nei Gung skills. It’s a deep thing. It goes as deep as breathing, opening the energy gates, or mastering the spine, etc. You will spend the rest of your life working on it and always have more to get out of it and further to go. Each breakthrough you have will just show you how much more there is ahead in terms of making your body’s tissues alive and awake through twisting them in various ways.

My advice is to not get stuck on it too much. Sure, get a sense of it, and keep working on it bit by bit. But don’t let it stop you in your tracks. When I first learned it from BKF at the Single Palm retreat in 2002 I was extremely frustrated and annoyed by it. I tried to ignore it and forget about it. Over the years we did it again and again and bit by bit it started to come true. And the more I’ve felt it the more I’ve realized how much further there is to go.

    Good luck!

I’ve been doing straight line walking and experimenting with Circle walking for the last 3 months. Whilst I have fairly good balance I get a little inside knee pain on the right when circle walking and have backed off. It’s also sunk in about what my objectives should be as a internal martials arts beginner. Namely to work on the pre-requisites – breathing, relaxation, alignments and twisting. Until I develop these sufficiently the mud walking is only providing external physical benefits. So I’m reducing my walking practice to 10 minutes a day and putting the lion share into the basic Energy gates standing practice, taoist breathing, twisting practice and mediatation. I’m in this for the long haul and want to reap the benefits of my endevours so will learn to walk before trying to run.

Great post Jeremy, I’m coming to this same place myself. Until the ground work has been laid, the rest will come to nothing anyhow. I’m going to slow down also and get those basics down. This is lifelong, you are correct, and i think as beginners we need to have your same view and approach.
