In Bruce’s book he says he learned to breathe in the two fingers (index and middle), down the central channel to the lower tan then, and then exhale in reverse.
I first learned san ti using Sun Lutang’s materials where he says to extend the fingers forward for combat…thus releasing chi from the body. To retain chi in the body he said to bend the wrist so the fingers point upward.
In practicing our version of Hsing I is it OK to continue doing san ti with fingers extended forward, so when I exhale, the chi leaves the body?
Hi James,
Yes with the wirst bent and fingers pointed up the body will retain more qi. It is perfectly fine to practice Santi with the fingers pointed forward. Like Sun Lutang stated this technique is used for combat and to learn how to project qi. The main point is to focus on is keepeing the core baseline of qi in your body/lower tantien and never to project away your “principle” only play/work with your “interest” regardless of hand position.
Kind regards,
