    Hello everyone,

I have been noticing that I have been experiencing a lot more instances of ‘Deja Vu’. Sometimes these are quite disturbing, sometimes not as much.

I have been wondering if these experiences have any meaning in Taoist meditation?

    Would really appreciate any comments…

Hey, Guy! Sorry you haven’t had a reply yet. I got stalled on Month 10, so haven’t been on in a while. I have the feeling the forum hasn’t been very active since the first wave of people finished.

So I’ll give you the best answer I can. I haven’t had the same experience with deja vu, so can’t comment directly. But I would suspect that it’s just a result of tossing stuff up internally when doing the work. People who have experiences such as this are usually told to just ignore them, they’re just experiences. I’ve rarely heard Bruce affix any meaning to these types of experiences when asked. There’s very little intellectual “figuring out” in this system, it’s usually regarded as a distraction.

I find it interesting, though. Are you still having them? Have they become stronger or weaker?

Thanks Catherine, still having the deja vu, but not particularly stronger or weaker, but very intense. They seem to last longer, though. Very strange…

Hi, Guy. Different forum, different question. I haven’t had an more deja vu experiences since I’ve started the meditation group, but I do have them from time to time. I think as we start to develop all these new neurological networks through energy practices and meditation that a lot of interesting things happen in our heads. I’m not sure if deja vu falls into that category or not. I guess it’s one of those experiences that meditation masters advise against getting too hung up about. but still it’s pretty interesting…

Hi Matthew, I’m sorry, I had totally over looked this post. Of all the people on this forum, you seem to the one most inclined to engage with the conversations, and I respect that, I really do.

I have always had a very eerie feeling with deja vu, with a sense of impending doom. Any more thoughts?

No, my déjà vu experiences haven’t had a negative or ominous vibe. It’s more like I’m suddenly conscious of how mysterious things are. Bruce writes about the psychic realm, but I don’t seem to have much sensitivity in that area. I’m not sure if déjà vu falls into this category or not. I studied the I Ching with Stephen Karcher and his take on it was that working with it was a way to develop your own psychic abilities. His I Ching translations are pretty interesting: he claims to be returning to the shamanic roots of the I. Anyway, sorry for rambling….

Hey, how do you get the accents on letters? Not figured that out yet.

No, not rambling at all – like I said, always good to hear from you. Where do you teach? Couldn’t locate you on the web site instructor list. You sound very interesting.

Maybe the ominous tone is due to the fact that I’m a heavy drinker and smoker, but there’s not much about this existence that I don’t find ominous to be be honest with you….

My spell checker makes those marks, but there are a number of key combinations on the Mac that I’ve discovered to write in Portuguese.

Anyway, I’m not a tai chi teacher, I teach at Berklee college of music in Boston,

Not sure what to say about your last paragraph except to wish you the best with your peactice. Does your meditation also have an ominous tone? Mine’s been getting pretty peaceful since I started working with the material in the meditation circle.

Oh right, don’t know why I assumed you were a tai chi teacher – you seem very knowlegeable about these subjects.

Sorry, didn’t mean to get too dismal on you.

I am really working on Energy Gates at the moment, as I am a beginner, and only really get to the sitting meditation when driving, which I do for a living. That seems to be some sort of vehicle for me (excuse the pun). I have had some glimpses of peace during this.

However, in standing and moving, I seem to be pulling up loads of fear and anxiety, of which I am full. Maybe that’s what’s behind this deja vu question.

It seems very peculiar, though, that sort of intense feeling that one has already seen a particular arrangement of circumstances. That links in to my interest in the philosophy of time space and so on and so on, which you may have seen in some of my other posts. Went a bit over the top in the last one though – oops.

    Always a pleasure

About Deja Vu; I occasionally have these experiences as well and have done so for many decades -at least since I was in my 20s – I’m now 50.

    I have found myself having two distinctly different “types” of them;

One is where I suddenly feel I’ve actually lived this before, been here before, etc. It always only lasts for a few seconds, 3, 4 or maybe up to 10 seconds and then it’s over. These are more rare.

The other, more common type I experience is where I have the “I’ve been here, doing this” already experience but I have the distinct sense that I dreamed about this particular thing happening months before.

In neither case are any of the experiences particularly poignant, crucial or important. Just more or less ‘everyday’ kinds of events.

However mundane, they are still definitely an odd feeling and as you say Matthew, it makes one wonder about the nature of what we call “reality” actually is…
