My first experience with energetic healing was with reiki. More recently I’ve been attracted to Chi Gung and was wondering what people out there think about why training to heal people using reiki is usually done in a few days and one could possibly earn the title of “Reiki Master” in that time, while it seems that training to use chi gung for healing requires much more time.
Also, it seems as though Reiki practioners seem to use the term “Master” much more loosely than one who earns the title Tai Chi Master for example .
I feel like reiki is much easier to learn, but I really like the idea of practicing for years if not a lifetime to perfect an art such as Tai Chi or Chi Gung. I suppose the more one practices reiki the better one would get at it; just like anything. But the title Master seems to have a different meaning depending on who you ask or where you are.

Hi! First, the title “master” in reiki means only one thing, you have beeing atuned to atune others to the reiki energy. That´s all. It doesn´t mean you have any personal qualities… In the other arts, being a master means you master the subject of study & practice. I’ve some master titles in some systems of reiki and i´ve seen great healing coming from reiki. That said, must tell i´m a medical chi kung and i chuan praticioner and these systemas look more deep, refined, subtle and complete than reiki. This is one of the reasons why they take more time to learn. Well, maybe it´s jus a personal preference… Finally, it looks like this arts are just like shoes… some like sneakers, some prefer boots and the point beyond preferences is that each of them has it´s unique quality & utility.Bye.

Interesting question. I have learned Reiki, too and it was very quick. What I have found for me is that in Reiki I feel that I it is more a channeling of energy through me rather than a development of energy in me, as when I work with the martial arts. With the martial arts it feels like the energy builds in me and stays in me. If I use it when I give someone an acupressure massage I am using some of my energy but mostly I am helping them move their energy. When one uses Reiki it helps the other persons energy move but I feel that I am moving a lot more energy through me and into them. Reiki is a much newer form of energy healing and I suppose like everything newer it has to be fast to learn or people won’t stick with it. We no longer take the time to develop things, we want them instantly. The same goes for titles these days, most don’t mean a whole lot anymore.
