I have heard it said that eating or drinking can interfere with qi flow during and after practice. Should one refrain from eating prior to and/or after tai chi or qigong practice? If so, how long should one wait after or before eating? Is it ok to drink during or immediately after practice? Thanks.
Don’t eat a
big meal just before you practice and don’t eat immediately after practice. If
you eat a big meal, wait at least 30 minutes, so your digestion is well
underway before you start practising. It’s not that eating interferes with qi
flow, but rather that your qi goes into your organs for digestion after eating.
Therefore, you have less qi to circulate and thereby develop more qi. Drinking in between practice
is fine so long as you don’t drink excessive quantities that results in
bloating.
