In one of the Pi Chuan videos, Bruce mentions there is a practice that can improve the arch of a flat foot. As I have fairly flat feet, this is something I’m interested to learn.

Can anyone tell me where to find this practice? Is it in the “Opening the Energy Gates” book? (I’ve ordered the book in any case).

    Many thanks in advance,

    Hi Adam,

Yes, I remember Bruce mentions this somewhere. He said it’s taught in the “Energy Gates” instructor training. But it’s not in the book.

The practice that Bruce has shown many times is one of twisting the five rings of the legs so that the arches rise. This truly needs to be demonstrated by someone trained in it–not in “Opening the Energy Gates” book. One simple practice short of this one is to link the palms and the arches of the feet energeticallyby feeling both, then draw energy in through the palms until they indent, then release, repeat. Once this becomes naturally rhythmic, allow the arches of the feet to follow the lead of the palms. As it is easier to draw energy at first in through the hands than in through the feet, cut back on how much you draw through your hands so that the flow matches what you can do through your arches. Easier to do sitting in a chair.

Thanks very much Geoffrey! I can certainly feel a lifting quality in my feet when I do that exercise (I’m pretty familiar with internal work). I’ll start by adding that to my daily practice, and look around for an instructor in the meantime.
